Man look at that! Just absolutely amazing straight grain, this is what chair-makers prized back in the day when they'd fell the tree, split it green, and build their chair, long straight grain like this and knot free, was in abundance and only used for chair making.

The keel of the USS Constitution is a single longleaf pine timber.

A friend in S. Maryland has a few dozen LLP trees from seedlings, they are 10 years old, and look like weeds.

A 50 year old tree might appear 4" in diameter plus the bark.

I will trim the edge the stare at it for a spell. Take a picture, print it, then think about how to cut it. The wood does not lay flat after cutting. But I've laminated pieces together to cancel out bow.

These edges were taken out to remove major nailage. I saved the corners, which will make good table legs with a bit of scraping and fitting. Then again, I save mostly everything unless it is too damaged or compromised, and then it goes into the fireplace.

The U.S.Navy prized it as well . . . for turning into resin an turpentine. 200 years is all it took to log the tree to 4% left - "endangered".
