John Morris Administrator February 11, 20242 yr Author stats I still love this use of wood destined for a harsher life. You really configured the grain beautifully Woodman.
Woodman Members February 12, 20242 yr Author stats Thanks, John. Most of the reclamation yard's wood goes into flooring, some into structural beams, a little into furniture. These scraps likely came from a dumpster. A shapes'n'things (visual) artist was over, prowling my stacks & scrap, and asked how I made the inlay. "I fit one piece in there at a time" It's a little too labor-intensive for some, the second one didn't go any faster, but once it's done, it's done. I still have both
John Morris Administrator February 12, 20242 yr Author stats They wonderful examples of ingenuity and use of wood, I am also glad to hear the other uses that the lumber is destined for. I have cut into old growth pine in the past, one thing I find pleasing is the aroma, it reminds me of working in my dad's shop for some reason. I hope you are still woodworking, you have a very unique style and take on the medium of woodworking.
Woodman Members February 15, 20242 yr Author stats Thanks, John, yes, I'm crafting. In December I picked up a dedicated basement TS, the Dewalt 8 ¼", as well as the Dewalt 2-speed 13" thickness planer. Came across a 2x3 - 7' of straight grain longleaf in my pile. Remembered your glee at seeing images of straight grain pine, how you imagined the pleasure it'd be to cut a piece and have it stay straight. Most of my stuff is pretty delicate. If I go the vending route, I'll probably want product liability insurance or register as an LLC. So for now, I'm holding back on sales. Some of the items are quite robust, those I have not so much an issue with vending, but you can still get a splinter, so it's a conundrum either way.

Uh oh, it's all over now! Hey Woodman, are you also thinking about an online presence for your artwork?

I'm trying to figure out if I want to vend or be more of an artist in a fancy gallery . . . There is a network of craft shows I can join but so far I do not have the full rig nor inventory. And another project is coming up, painting . . . Edited February 16, 20242 yr by Woodman
