That is a really great idea.  I am guessing that you can access a box on either side?  One suggestion you may consider is to lay a 2 X 4 on its side across the top rail.  Secure it with screws from underneath and you can change it when it becomes too ratty to continue.

No I had planned for that but my wife wanted single entry, not two separate spaces.  Bet she thinks otherwise one day.

Good idea and I may do that come springtime.  I know I will cut through that at least 5 times.  :JawDrop:
