Made the top shelves in two pieces out of the same 3/4" Baltic birch.  They fit too!! Yay!  Cut 1/4" strips off maple 1 x 6 boards for the shelf edges.  Used the rest for the face trim.  Probably a little overkill on it, but what the heck.
