Using my stihl 170 with a dime tip I roughed this out and proceeded to work on it with my new arbortech minigrinder. It was just about an hour of work on a scrap piece of cherry. No pattern, I just used a pencil and drew it on after cutting two edges to form 90º so I could establish a nose point. Working from highest point I began roughing lightly as not to go too deep. Some burning and highlighting and it will sit in the yard till she rots lol. Hopefully the pic uploaded proper as I was experiencing difficulty with uploads.....admin lol! Thanks for the help guys!. Hey Dale, looks great man, how tall is it? 3 feet? I Love these pieces, specially after a few years of mildew and moss, they gain a lot of character. Thanks for sharing, looks like you got your image rotating issues worked out.

    Yeah its around 3'. I have so much laying lumber its crazy. Yes the moss and mildew is gonna make it better I think. I will seal it with some sort of oil penetrator. The photo uploaded good so I will be doing some retakes since I did some crazy projects before our cold snap. This piece is gonna be like the other I think. I'm going to hollow it out and find a vining plant as to "cover" his head. I'd like to do a project and design it with a spirit face and add the 4th inf division symbol somehow and since we were called the ivy troops.... put ivy into its character. I got to draw it first. Thanks for the comment!

    Have you ever tried Sikkens for a finish? It's mostly for decks and log siding but I'll bet it will give you the protection you want. We have it on our redwood deck. Two coats and it still looks good after five years

    Thanks Lew and Gene. I have used sikkens before yes its good stuff. I'm gonna color it up with redwood or gold to highlight it so shadows pop. Then something like sikkens would be perfect. I will put pics together with ivy or some vine for effect as soon as weather gets nice again. Thanks for the likes guys!
