January 27, 201313 yr  A Flat rate box, full of funny looking popcorn, and a bit of bubble wrap.  (BUBBLE WRAP, OH, AH, POP)  all the way from Chicago, Ill!  Brought the item out into the morning sunlightHmmm, not my usual stanley, or other oddball type of plane.  Says Millers Falls No. 8 on the one side.  Seems to be a type 4, about 1950 or so.  kind of dirty, but not too rusty ( Drat, I like RUSTY) so down stairs and a little cleanup. Well, maybe a little rusty, afterall.   Got things all torn down, and started to wire brush things clean.Lots of Brass to shine, a frog to re-hab.   I am NOT touching the wood parts, for now.  This stuff here, though, is fair game.  I got things nice and shiny, time to put things back together, before i lose any parts.Looking a little better, another look? All bolts shined up.  Now, about that iron.   It seems it had a "Reverse Camber" to it.  The corners stuck out more than the middle.  I had to regrind an edge. install a honing guide, set up the beltsander, and then go through all five grits of the oil stones.  Top it off with a sheet of very fine sandpaper, and a leather belt strop.   I THINk it MIGHT be almost sharp.Maybe?   The wood is a cut-off of the leg blank.  I Think it might just be sharp enough, for now.... January 27, 201313 yr Author  Millers fals called it Gancolo.  Then they put a thick reddish varnish on it. I had a #9 last year that I re-habbed and sold. This is what it looks like, without the finish.  Maybe a Shellac finish to set it off? These will be legs for a Dinette Table I'm making. Still need to do some aprons, and glue up a top.  Got plenty of time... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
