A planer question

Featured Replies

Greetings and halluciations.

A friend of mine has severely bent the stiffener on his Delta planer and can't seem to locate one.  I told him I would put it out here for you guys to see if any help can be found.

Model Delta TP305

Type 1

Serial 021227

SM5061

He told me he could find the part, orders it, and then several days later he gets an email that says they are sending his money back because the part isn't available.

Any help for him would be greatly appreciated.

Fred,

I'll look around and see what I can find.

Ebay may be a source.

That's the same one I have. What is a stiffener? How'd it get bent?

A fellow on another forum is having fits trying to get parts for a new Delta lathe. Sounds like things are going downhill for Delta.

I have been trying to find a part for my Delta mortiser and every place has the part on back order with no estimate of when it will become available. Good thing that the part is not crucial for operation as I can still use the mortiser without it. This is an issue with the Delta parts on a wide scale.

Gene - The parts breakdown calls it a "Knife Locking Bar".  It is the bar that locks the knife in the rotating head.

Cause?  Picture Oak, cutting into the grain, a little too much initial push, chip instead of cut, chip gets jammed into the knife so hard that it breaks the knife and completely bends the stiffener out of shape.  Been there, done that myself.

Larry, good thought, will give it a try.

Yes, John - that's exactly it.  Thanks for the help.  I'll ask him if he has tried this outfit.  Right now he is an offshore oil rig out in the Gulf of mexico.
