Legs are done, aprons need a little work yet

Well, sort of.    Got them shaped to what they will be.    Started on the tenons.    Not set up for a tablesaw sort of thing, so, have to go "Old School". ning-sdc14237-17776-26.jpg?width=750Got a few tools laid out.  Chisels are nice and sharp, now. ning-sdc14238-17776-32.jpg?width=750Laid out where the tenons will be.   Carried the lines all the way around.  ning-sdc14244-17776-21.jpg?width=750My so-called "good" backsaw.   It binds about 1/8" into a cut. POS!  So, I used a different "Disston"ning-sdc14239-17776-92.jpg?width=750 A Disston/HK Porter #10 Coping saw.     I sawed down until the blade is just below the surface. ning-sdc14240-17776-49.jpg?width=750Used a mallet ( that wooden one  in the other photo) and a 1" wide chisel.    Popped the waste  right off. I used another chisel 3/4' wide to pare the tenon to shape.  ning-sdc14241-17776-74.jpg?width=750Rotate and repeatning-sdc14242-17776-46.jpg?width=750Rotate again.   Marked down a 1/2", sawed down a 1/2", and pop off the waste.   pare as needed, move on to the other end.   Each end takes MAYBE 15 minutes, counting  the paring work.  On the thicker front and back aprons  (1'' thick!!)   I did cheat a bit.    I grabbed a larger sawning-sdc14218-17776-54.jpg?width=750About 20" long saw.   After starting the cuts with the coping saw, this one did all the hard stuff.   Came back and checked for depth, and grabbed the chisels.   Got all four aprons done today.  Put two aside will I worked on the long onesning-sdc14243-17776-58.jpg?width=750about all that bandsaw is good for, lately.   The boards under the apron are the four legs.   I did chop a few mortises out tonight.    Four, actually.    I now have the front legs and the front apron sitting in the clamps, waiting on the glue to cure.

I even ran around for half the day, chasing paperwork so I could be a working stiff again.    On the way out of a Doctor's parking lot, saw a "Road Hazard" laying in one of the four lanes of the streetning-sdc14236-17776-35.jpg?width=750Feels like a 16 oz one.    Maybe a "restore" that isn't a plane, for a change???

Very nice work Steve. Lots of patients to it that way.

Steve, with your skills, who needs a table saw? Your depth gauge is awesome, too.

Your posts about this table are better than watching Roy U. Please keep 'em coming.

I see you found my hammer. It's a good one. I owned it for 30 years. Replaced the head twice and the handle three times. It's a great hammer.

Who ever threw the hammer away, needs better aim.   They missed me....

Chopping leg mortises later today, and a glue-up as I go.  Stay tuned..
