January 30, 201313 yr  Out running around yesterday.  Was pulling out of a Doctor's office driveway onto a busy four lane street.  Saw a "Road hazard" laying in the street, just about where a tire would go. Stopped the van, put on the 4-way flashers to warn other drivers.   Got out, walked back and picked it up off the street.  Brought in home to the shop:I lost count of the different paint colours on this thing. It even had paint that looked just like concrete, and rust!  Amazing what they come up with at Sherman Wiliams.    Anyway got after the hammer head with the wire brush in the drill press. I had a belt for a beltsander handy, and worked the handle down until just bare wood (mostly, some were a might deep).   I just clamped the head in my vise, and used the belt to sand away.  Got out that Smelly Stuff in a Blue Can (BLO) and gave the handle a rub down. Ok, time for the "Reveal"?That black tape is a feature I use on my hammer handles, it let's me know when i am too close to the end of the handle.   Don't want them to go flying around.  One more (better) look?A 16 oz, smooth face, rip claw hammer. It did have a red paint on part of the head. Well balanced, feels just right in my hand. Might have a keeper?    Price was right, too.... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
