Had to saw some scrap down to lengthning-sdc14260-17520-9.jpg?width=750That is, Hand saw to length.    Needed to make a stretcher from the front apron to the back one.    I was going to hand cut a dovetailning-sdc14261-17520-25.jpg?width=750So,I had to lay them out, using an old router bit as a "template".   A little saw workning-sdc14262-17520-87.jpg?width=750Then chop down at an angle to make a dovetailning-sdc14263-17520-89.jpg?width=750wearing that old chisel out.   Ok, next I laid out ON the aprons where the dovetail would goning-sdc14264-17520-97.jpg?width=750Using the dovetail itself.   Next, more chisel workning-sdc14267-17520-51.jpg?width=750Checking as i went for fit.   Got both sides done, time for a final fitting (note: I left one apron in the vise)ning-sdc14268-17520-33.jpg?width=750A couple taps with a hammer, to seat it, rotate this aroundning-sdc14270-17520-76.jpg?width=750and both are now fitted.   I left this together.     I needed a way to stand the legs up.ning-sdc14271-17520-57.jpg?width=750That way, I could glue up the end aprons, and add the corner blocks.    The top in the background was next.ning-sdc14272-17520-66.jpg?width=750Plan was for Beveled edges.   How does one bevel an edge?    With a handplane, or two.   Biggie does the rough work, block does the clean up.    I beveled both ends firstning-sdc14273-17520-3.jpg?width=750then the longer front and back ones.   Needed a bit longer plane, though.  Still used a block for clean up.  I also did a little more smoothing to the topning-sdc14274-17520-75.jpg?width=750using a Union #5A ( Stanley 5-1/2 size) to work over the top.  I HATE knots!   I will go back over this again, with a small smoother plane.  I want to leave some plane markings in the top, for a "Hand-made" look.   One more chore before i quit for the nightning-sdc14276-17520-90.jpg?width=750Since Igor is still on strike, I get to do the clean up.   I also set the top on the base, just to get an idea of how it will look..ning-sdc14275-17520-18.jpg?width=750Clamps will be gone tomorrow.    Not looking too bad???

Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

Lookin' good! Love those beveled edges and, especially that dovetailed stretcher.

Your style of work and commentary is refreshing. No fussiness, no mystique, no outlandishly expensive tools or material.

BTW, did you ever determine the species used for the legs and aprons?

I'll bet Igoretta Jean, Igor's half sister, wouldn't mind the color of the walls.

Legs and aprons are a white oak.    Top is Pine.

You think I have been watching Roy Underhill too long????

Heck, I learn more from your posts than from Underhill. Would he have ever used a router bit as a template for a dove tail?

You've done more to awaken my interest in hand tool work, than any of his shows.
