February 6, 201313 yr The Shadow Sphere Jig by Mr. David Reed Smith.... I posted some information about this subject in the past, however, Mr. Reed has added an additional video to the information. He illustrates just how helpful the jig can be when turning spheres. Just what can you do with a sphere? Well here's an example of what Mr. Smith as done- Even if you do not have any desire to turn a sphere, check out the end of this article. Mr. Smith has developed a wide range of home made chucking devices that can be adapted to just about any project. February 25, 201313 yr Thanks Lewis for posting. Thats pretty cool. Although it doesn't require a lathe there is a method for making a sphere but I don't think I'll try it because of the noise. You take a cube and knock the sharp corners off then attach a containment box onto a horizontal belt sander, drop the trimmed sphere into the box, secure the top and turn on the belt sander and out pops a sphere. I've seen it done in person and I can attest to the noise but it does render a sphere.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
