I posted some information about this subject in the past, however, Mr. Reed has added an additional video to the information. He illustrates just how helpful the jig can be when turning spheres.

Thanks Lewis for posting. Thats pretty cool. 



Although it doesn't require a lathe there is a method for making a sphere but I don't think I'll try it because of the noise. You take a cube and knock the sharp corners off then attach a containment box onto a horizontal belt sander, drop the trimmed sphere into the box, secure the top and turn on the belt sander and out pops a sphere. I've seen it done in person and I can attest to the noise but it does render a sphere.
