Friday, February 15th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Well I hope all of you were able to spend a great evening with your Valentine and make them feel very special. My lovely bride had to work so we had a short evening but decided we would go out tonight instead of trying to do anything last night.

So I spend a good part of the night on Skype with Ron Dudleston looking at what I thought was a problem with my Grizzly 15" planner. I think before the night was over I decided, (Ron was nice) that is probably more user error than the planner being out of adjustment.

I was working on making the cutting board I posted last weekend earlier this week. After the first glue up I run them back through the planner in case anything moved during the edge glue up. Anyway they looked very good and after as many as I have made I didn't put the straight edge across them, I trusted the eye. They were ever so slightly smaller on the edge so when I started doing the glue up and tightened the clamp, it didn't close all the gap on the edge. That is not good.

So I took it apart last night and with Ron's eye on the dial gauge looking at it through the camera on Skype we decided the roller and cutter head were dead on.

So this weekend I will be making another batch of cutting boards after an early morning at work. 6;30 I have to update a piece of hardware on our network and that is the only time I can take it down for any period of time.

Once the cutting board are cut and glued, I have another project that I have to start planning the parts for. Another reason I need the planner to be right. I will post more on that project as I get it going.

So what about you all? What is on your weekend agenda, woodworking, home improvement, jig building, HDL, yard work (I know some of you are still snowed in) or just being lazy and enjoying time in the recliner? You know, we here at TPW love to see and hear about the projects you are working on. The inspire us all to do more and to try different things. So share with us your plans for these weekend.

Don't forget to post pictures, we love to see pictures of your wonderful projects.

Not much woodworking for me this weekend as we are going to a "Sweetheart" show at Amicolola Falls State Park in Georgia.  Inside show.  Will be taking travel trailer since the lodge is booked solid.  Hopefully we will have a good one for our first of the year.  Gotta get some $$$ for our trip to Belgium in June.

How about the rest of y'all?

Wow John! Skype Customer Service with Ron! Man you must of been desperate! Just kidding Ron!

I work a 10/40 week with every Friday off, very nice since every weekend is a 3 day weekend, and when we have a holiday like we do this Monday for Presidents Day, it's a nice 4 day weekend! Today I am going to assemble the settee sofa for our customer, tomorrow I'll rub the finish out and detail it and get it ready for delivery. I had hoped to use the proceeds to go towards the purchase of a new lathe, but since I was out sick, and my sick hours were worn down, I was out an entire week with no pay! So looks like we'll have to use our proceeds from this job to defray our living costs, shucks! Almost had that lathe!

I then need to get back to some minor home repairs that I have neglected lately, mama is loosing patience. So hopefully I'll get some stucco patch on an area where we needed to replace the hose bib, there is a hole around the area that needs patched up. And I have a small cabinet to build to be recessed into our bathroom wall, should be a nice little two day project.

Have a great weekend with your project folks, and stay safe! We want to see all your digits at the end of the weekend.

Not much on my schedule for this weekend. Tami and I left Tuesday morning to go see her folks in Yuma, AZ (about a 4 hour drive) and came home on Thursday afternoon. We went and had a quick dinner at a local fast mexican food place and then took a meal over to some friends from church that were in need. Then we had a romantic Valentines Night and saw the new "Die Hard" movie (nothing says romance like John McClane taking out the bad guys). This morning Tami and I had a nice quiet breakfast at Chick-Fil-A reading the morning paper and then spent the day together driving down to Huntington Beach where we walked around and enjoyed the 80 degree heat and the quiet beach. It was so clear that you could see all of Catalina Island off the coast about 22 miles away! We spent some quality time on the beach in chairs reading our books. Then we drove down the coast for awhile with the windows down enjoying the ocean air and then headed back towards home where we had an early dinner. Tomorrow we have some yard work to get done as I have to spray the weeds that sprung up on the slope and Tami will weed the flower beds.

Now that sounds like a wonderful day Allen!!!!! I noticed how clear it was last night, a real starry night, and I bet that translated to a very clear day at the coast. Great times!

You know Moody is in trouble when he gets a one eyed service rep to assist him but hey, I'm cheap.  Today 5 guys from our church gutted a widow's kitchen and began a renovation.  We have new upper cabimnets installed and part of the lowers in place.  Saturday we'll set the rest of the lowers, re-install all of the appliances and install a new over the range microwave.  We'll have a new countertop measured and in a few weeks we'll install a new countertop, sink and garbage disposal.  Lots of work but a worthy cause and these guys are all great to work with.  It's like working with 4 Tommy Silvas from This Old House.  All are very sharp.

That's really cool Ron, I remember the other day you told me about that project. How wonderful the widow is going to feel with her new kitchen! In the spirit of volunteerism Ron, you and your gang of men in tights are doing a wonderful job!

Well gang, at 4:15 PM today we had the kitchen done with the exception of measuring and ordering the new countertops.  Dishwasher was in, fridge water supply hooked up, all cabinets set, temporary countertop with sink and garbage disposal set, above range microweave installed, gas range piping re-routed and stove hooked up and the mess all cleaned up.  Plus, some of the ladies at the church surprised us with a pulled pork lunch.  Life is good but I'm whipped.

Jeez John, you make us all look bad man!

I got the settee delivered and it's final resting place. Our customer loved it! Now he is planning for a cushion and upholstery.

Got these done. Actually, just turned and finished the pins. I have a bunch of square blanks waiting to be turned. Did make the holders, also.
