Fretwork Heart Box

Featured Replies

This is a fretwork heart box I made for my wife's Valentine's day present. It's made from a modified plans from Creative Woodworks & Crafts magazine. The lid and base are Walnut and the body of the box is Maple. The fretwork is filled with Polymer clay then cured in the oven. I finished the box with 4 coats of Minwax Polyacrylic gloss spray. See my blog for how I built it. http://www.thepatriotwoodworker.com/profiles/blogs/valentines-fretwork-heart-box-fretwork-filled-with-poleymer-clay

Yes Lewis she does. I was a little late in getting the box completed so not to be late for Valentines day I gave it to her before I got the finish applied and it took awhile to get it from her so I could apply the poly. I don't like giving unfinished gifts but I had to make an exception in this case.

Better late than never. It's a gorgeous box, like the design and the exquisite details on the scrolls and hearts. Beautiful wood combination and finish. Perfect gift for Valentine's.

Thank you Claude! There are numerous mistakes in it but it's part of the learning curve.

It looks perfect to me but if there are a lot of mistakes, you are a mark of a true craftsman on hiding or repairing them, hardly no traces at all. Great work Mike!

Thanks Claude! The fretwork isn't as clean as I would've liked but small steps in the learning of the use of the scroll saw is what it takes to become proficient. Thanks again!
