February 18, 201313 yr comment_16832 I was perusing the Woodcraft site looking for great deal and found this dust collector by Laguna, the regular price I feel is a great deal for the machinery your getting. This looks like one mean machine that could run an entire shop no problem. And it's on sale on top of that. What a great looking machine. March 2, 201313 yr comment_16834 Awful lot of money there Woodcraft. At present I have a HF dust collector that's connected to a separator drum and it does a decent job of separating the bigger particles from the fine dust which ends up in my aftermarket cartridge filter and a small amount drops into the collector bag. I am looking to further modify my set up with an Oneida Super Dust Deputy mounted on a steel drum and the collector motor and plenum mounted directly to the top of the cyclone. With the addition of the Super Dust Deputy and the cost of the filter cartridge and HF collector I'd still be well under the cost of the Laguna Cyclone with very little difference in performance.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops Report
March 3, 201313 yr comment_16833 If one is going to spend a lot of $$ on a DC I'd like to see a separator that is able to filter out the super fine particles down to and below 1 micron before it gets to the filter.  For my money there is no point is spending more than the cost of a straw broom and dustpan unless one os going after the 1 and sub micron particles. They are - after all - the ones that destroy the lungs. Everything else is just messy stuff you can sweep.I suppose a sub micron filter is OK but there are problems with that approach: First is the fact of filter clogging and replacement. Then there is the so called "seasoning in period" that most bag filters require and during that period they don't filter squat.
