Rounded up a couple old planks, one pine from a waterbed, the other......ning-sdc14348-16803-63.jpg?width=750underneath all the dirt, might be some oak, at least that's the rumor going round.    Needed to scrub all that junk off, just to rip a blank or two off the good parts of this....."thing".    Tried a small scrub plane, going at right angles to the grainning-sdc14350-16803-79.jpg?width=750It was working, but was taking too long.   Went and got the bigger scrub planening-sdc14351-16803-50.jpg?width=750going at it at the diagonals.    Made short work of the mess.  Used a pair of 2" long screws to hold the plank in place, since clamps would get in the way of the "Table Saw" i have to usening-sdc14355-16803-54.jpg?width=750hey, it is on a table, and it is a saw, right?   I ripped a blank from this side, turn the plank around, and ripped a blank off the other good side.    I left that junky stuff in the middle alone.  Each blank was cut down to size, about ~19" or so.     Needed to plane away the saw marks on one facening-sdc14354-16803-87.jpg?width=750and then work over the other three faces, because they were in needning-sdc14356-16803-72.jpg?width=750Don't you think?     Wound up using about every plane in the shop, size-wise. ning-sdc14358-16803-88.jpg?width=750Several #5 Jack planes, a #6 small jointer, and a small smooth plane.    I did try the old #8c Jointer out, but it was just too long.    I also got a small block plane out,  just for the touch ups.    Anyway, legs are now milled, awaiting the mortise and tenon work.

Next, that Pine plank.    At 72" long, i could get to boards just under 36" long.  They had that Rabbet joint on one edge, againning-sdc14359-16803-96.jpg?width=750So, I had to run a jointer down the edge, until each rabbet match the other.   Had to modify the "Bench" a bit.   Seems my pipe clamps have too long of a pipe on them.  Grabbed a Forstner bit that was just a little bigger than  the 1/2" pipe.    Drilled through the side of the main bench in two places.  Slid the pipe clamps into placening-sdc14361-16803-97.jpg?width=750and clamped up a table top.  i added a couple cauls to keep things  from bowing up.    Give a day or so to cure out.     Next up/  Tenons on aprons.    Stay tuned...

Grandson says he is getting a 42" TV, and needs atable to sit it on.   This just might hold it..

Those legs will have a bit of figure to them.  All I have to do is find a way to show them off.

As usual Steve, you found a way to make use of some wood that could have gone up in smoke if not for you. All I can say is great job on the improv with the table say, and my hat off to you on these projects by hand, you just keep pluggin along, nothing can stop you. Thanks for sharing

Because of your great posts, I may become a neanderthal, too.

That's going to be a nice TV table. Considering the thinness of the newer flat screens, what is he going to do with all that depth?

You gotta love his dedication! My hat off to ya Steve!

The only thing slowing me down is this old hip, and right leg.    Called off work tonight, going to the ER instead.     Can't walk on this leg..

The "extra room" on the TV table's top will be just right for the cable box, and the DVD player/Xbox.

Turns out, I have a pinched nerve in the hip.    Makes walking far, or sitting long, rather a bit of a Pain in the rearend.  And down the leg, as well...

Did get a little work on the top completed.
