February 20, 201313 yr  Got the top out of the clamps today.   Left two of them under the top. I needed a way to hold the top steady for the next operation.   Flattening that cupped old Pine into a top.  One face wasn't too hatefulSo I took a "Super jack Plane at the diagonals, to flatten the high spots.  ( Union #5A)smoothed out the remaining high spots with a little smooth plane.  This one happens to be the "New Kid on the Block"  Hibbards Ture Value #3.   Might have it sharp enough.   Ok time to flip the plank over, to reveal........ a......MESSThis is after scrubbing just one side of this mess.   Jack plane has a cambered iron, to take nice BIG bites.   Didn't take long to get all the nasty stuff removed.   I got out the larger planes, just to see IF I could make smoothers out of themLooking fairly good?  This is the #6c I rebuilt from a wrecked and broken DE6c.   I also had another #6But, it doesn't have a groovy bottom to it.   Actually, there wasn't any difference between to two planes. I then came back with a smooth plane, looking for any high spots the big guys left behindFound a couple.   Left a pile to clean upThis is the first face, soon to be the bottom of the table top.   Might go back and work out those plane marks, or just leave them as a sign that this table was hand made?? Next up?   Have to make some aprons, and assemble the base.  Still working on those details ( in my head, of course, nothing has been written down) on how the aprons will look, etc... Planer? February 20, 201313 yr Author Got the bevels made on the edges, used a few planes for that.   Found a few rough spots, and hit them againone long, rough stretch, anda few shorter ones.  Used a block plane for smoothing the bevelsand went around and found a few nibs, sticking out, left behind in the smoothng planes' wake. Another block plane handled that chore. Still haven't touched a sander on this project.   Wonder how long that will be?
