Found a Bullet in my Lumber! I think

Featured Replies

I was ripping some strips to secure to my project this past weekend, and after I ripped the strips, I noticed something shiny in the wood, what! Look like a piece of metal, it was, I started to dig it out and it was lead, the only explanation I can come up with is someone shot this tree a long time ago. It's about the size of of a pinky finger nail. I was going to leave it in since what I was working on loves character items like this, but I decided to cut around it and use what I could. That strip of wood is about 1" wide for context.

Yea it's probably a .22 soft which has no copper jacket, I would look on that same spot on the other piece you ripped this from and see if any more is there or if you got it all out :) I have found nails in wood but not bullets yet. Looks like it made the wood do some spalting too if I am not mistaken.

Cool! Fortunately, the soft lead didn't damage any of your tools.

Easier on a saw blade than this non-nail item?ning-sdc12309-16680-2.jpg?width=721About 1" long cast iron.    Looks like the end of a drill bit, the end that goes into a  Brace.   Left a black area in the wood, too.
