March 1, 201313 yr I am still around, but have had a couple of really busy weeks at my paying job. But I have taken off a couple of days to get my self rested up with some shop therapy. Tonight starts my craft show season and it doesn't look good. Snow is on the prediction and it is outdoors. Wood products and rain and snow don't go we'll together. But I have managed to get 20 cutting boards made, 10 bread dipping boards and four small cheese boards so should the weatherman miss the prediction I am ready. It has been nice to spend a long quite day in the shop with the sound of tools, the radio and the hum of the DC running. So what are your plans this weekend, will you be working on a new project in the shop, finishing up a project, doing a little home improvement, getting ready for yard season or are you still in the R&R mode? We here at the Patriot Woodworker are always interested in the great projects you are working on. So come on and share with us what you are doing and show us some pictures of the projects, we love to see pictures. Well I am off the pancake day for the Kiwanis club so I'll see you online after I am good and full on pancakes and sausage. Come on share those projects. March 1, 201313 yr Well John, I hope the snow doesnt get in the way of 1st Friday. On my assembly table is a 3 foot square coffee table. The top will be recessed and filled with beer caps and covered by clear pourable acrylic.  It is made of poplar and will be painted with black lacquer. Not my favorite but hey, I'm just the builder. Today I built the drawers and installed the MDF sheft and top. Tomorrow it gets the top trim and finish sanded. Here's a picture before I put the shelf and top on.  Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

March 1, 201313 yr Still nothing on my bench due to my bum shoulder. I saw the orthopedic this week and he said "I have great concerns for your shoulder". So I have an MRI scheduled for Monday and then once he reads the results we will go from there. So whenever I have to go through the garage I push the door opener button and keep my eyes on the  floor so as not to make any visual contact with my tools or wood on the racks.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.net'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. March 1, 201313 yr I'm trying to finish 2 tongue drums for the grand kids and then I'll be building a small downdraft table for use with my Foredom flex shaft tool. My next big project will be a slant front tool chest from Woodsmith Shop plans. I've had the plans for a long time but after seeing another woodworker on LJ's post his build it spurred me to build one now.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops

March 1, 201313 yr Ron it's a box with a hardwood top that has "tongues" cut into it the different lengths and shapes of the tongues produce a different sound when struck with a drum stick (pictured in 2nd pic). They are for my grand kids. With any luck the grand kids will like them and will annoy their parents, so I get twice the satisfaction! Actually they produce a rather soothing sound so I'll probably loose out on the irritation factor...LOL Ron Dudelston said: OK Mike, I'll bite. What's a tongue drum?Mike Dillen said: Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
March 1, 201313 yr Looks like some great projects being worked on. Myself i am going to work on a couple of bowls. Both are black cherry. The first is needing a bit more inside and outside bottom work and sanding. For some reason I cant seem to find a later picture of the bowl than this, I need to figure out where the pictures went or take them again. Anyway I uploaded a couple of pictures either here or on my Facebook page last night. Look me up on Facebook if you want to. I think these bowls will take all the time I have for the weekend and probably more. Have a great and safe weekend everyone! By the way, this one is about 7.5" across, thats a 9" tool rest in front there. March 2, 201313 yr I've learned something. I've seen the instruments but didn't know what they're called. BTW, it's a grandparent's right to spoil the grandkids so that they'll drive their parents crazy. It's called, "paybacks". Mike Dillen said: Ron it's a box with a hardwood top that has "tongues" cut into it the different lengths and shapes of the tongues produce a different sound when struck with a drum stick (pictured in 2nd pic). March 2, 201313 yr Author Well the snow did get in the way. But I have to show you this. Yep, that is a dusting of snow on the grill top and the roof of the shop. It doesn't take much snow down here to put people indoors. I took my boards downtown last night and waited to see if it was going to stop snowing. I had my tent, but no other vendors were setting up and most importantly, no buyers were walking the streets. So around 5:30 I head to the house, unloaded and took my wonderful bride and my son out for supper. Funny story though, I stopped by the grocery store on the way down town to get a long lighter for my propane heater just in case I setup my booth. I was in line and a lady behind me pulls up with a buggy and had five loafs of bread, that's all. I was thinking, surely you don't think this little snow is going to put us in that long. A good frost is heavier that this snow. So for now I am ahead on boards, but behind on sales. But there are more shows and hotter days coming. Well I am off again this morning to help out the Kiwanis club but eating more pancakes. Then we are moving furniture out of my mother n laws house. Have a great day and those projects posted above are all super. Mike I love that and need to make some for my grandkids. That is an awesome job on the table Ron. Charles that bowl has some nice grain. Looking forward to seeing them all finished. Happy Birthday Patriot Woodworker!! Thanks for bringing to fruition the dream! Pancakes here I come !!!!! March 2, 201313 yr You guys have been busy! Really nice projects posted above.Allen, Sure hope the exam helps find a way to full mobility for you. That's a real bummer, guy.John, Maybe the bread lady really likes PB&J sammiches....or French toast....or both. And John, spring is on the way, thank goodness. Supposed to be 65 here, today. Thursday, I took a little break from the gun cabinet and built a miter box for use with a Japanese pull saw. It's pretty slick.  Yesterday I cut a few pieces of trim for the gun cabinet and attached them. Today, I'll miter some more and attach them. Here are the plans for the miter box from Woodsmith/Shop notes. If you enjoy using the pull saws, you'll love this little miter box. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. March 2, 201313 yr John, If that's what you guys call snow, I'll send you some. Over the past few days we got 14". All of it wet, and heavy. Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host
March 2, 201313 yr Thats a good looking table. I'm with you, not sure I'd paint it either. The poplar looks really nice and would look great with an oil finish. Gota see it when you finish it!Ron Dudelston said: Well John, I hope the snow doesnt get in the way of 1st Friday.

March 2, 201313 yr Author Yep Larry, that is it for here. This place would freak out with 14" of snow.
March 2, 201313 yr Well, here's the coffee table ready for the finish. Black lacquer, yuk, but I'm not the customer.    Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
March 2, 201313 yr Line the drawers with red felt! Gold pin striping on the top edges. Then Saporro and Tsingtau bottle caps under the glass. Ah so?I's very nice the way it is. I agree with you.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
