March 11, 201313 yr If you use them, where and how? If you also use Sketchup, do you use story sticks in conjunction or, are their uses distinct? The only ways I've used them is to mark out for windows, appliances and other voids in laying out cabinet work. Also, two sticks to span an inside measurement for a shelf or drawer. Not very complicated.I've seen entire kitchens, uppers, lowers, drawer front heights and overhangs, and all cabinet depths, laid out on a small bundle of sticks. The markings were beyond my ken at the time. The guy that made the sticks used his own method of marking. Sort of a cabinet makers shorthand, understood by him alone. He even had mortise depths and tenon sizes marked out on the same stick as the door and face frame stick. He'd then take the bundles to the shop and build it all.....and it fit! Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. March 11, 201313 yr I've used them for marking out for drawer slides, drawers and drawer alignment. I use them when I have repetitive measurements that need to be transferred or laid out. I find them to be much better than trying to use a tape measure in tight areas once the initial measurement is marked and the stick is trimmed to fit exactly as needed. I also pencil in reference info for "up, down, front, back. left or right etc etc. Story stick are great and can save you lots of headaches & time! www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
