March 15, 201313 yr Wow it is amazing how fast time seems to be going these days. Here we are half way through March, Spring begins next week and it was just yesterday that we had Christmas wasn't it? Oh well the projects keep coming and keep us all busy in the shops and other jobs as the seasons change. I have about five projects on the tables right now and jumping from one to the other as I wait on things from one to finish. This weekend I will be working more on the Pulpit project. My General Finishes Enduro Var should be delivered Saturday so I will get to experiment with some different finishes as I put the finial pieces together. I am also cutting the dovetail for a Cedar Chest I started so I can get it ready to ship out to a customer. Dovetails will get cut first thing in the morning so I can get it in a glue up while I work on the Pulpit. Here are the front and back panel glue ups for the Cedar Chest. Along with the End Panels. So they will get trimmed to final dimensions and then the dovetails cut. So what do you have on your woodworking agenda this weekend? Will you be starting a new project, working on an existing project, working on shop jigs, HDL, preparing for Spring, or getting in a little more R&R time on the weekend. We here at TPW are interested in your projects and love to see the pictures of what you are building. In progress pictures and final project pictures. Give us a little detail on the project and share it with us. So come on, what is on your Agenda this Weekend? John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 15, 201313 yr You got a lot done last night John. Saturday will be spent on a rolling kitchen island for the LOML. The maple top is finished and both side panels are in the clamps right now. I'm trying to decide wheter to use solid oak for the end panels or use up the oak plywood I have left over from building the kithcen cabinets. Decisions, decisions.......Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

March 15, 201313 yr Wow John! You have a lot going on man!Great work and I am envious of your multi tasking abilities.I am going to clean shop this weekend. My shop looks like a war zone and it needs some attention. I'll move things around, vacuum behind and blow the dust out to the outside where it will hopefully float away. Now that I am caught up on projects, it's time to focus on our home once again, I am going to try to get some doors hung this weekend and a tie up a few other things as well. I have some stucco patching to do on our exterior, and some deferred maintenance that needs to be caught up on after our winter.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project
March 15, 201313 yr John, What do you use on the cauls to prevent glue from sticking?Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
March 15, 201313 yr Author Shipping tape. The clear kind that you can get with the dispenser. I made most of those out of 3/4" MDF and cover one side with clear shipping tape. The glue won't stick to it. If you only tape one side, don't put the wrong side against the glue. LOL!!John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 15, 201313 yr Man-O-Man, Moody. You are a busy guy. I too am envious of your energy.I'm still shucking and gluing oysters. Probably get them done today and trimmed tomorrow. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

March 16, 201313 yr Lewis I use packing tape as well. I do recommend using the thickest tape available otherwise if you peal it off the thin tape just tears. The heavier tape  will usually come off intact. www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
March 18, 201313 yr Cold and dreary here, but I re- built a "bog chair" for a country friend of mine. Â She was so thrilled to get her chair back, she ordered two more. Â Built out of pressure treated, but have a line on some sawmill cutoffs in hardwood. Â Am also thinking about cottonwood/sycamore, but am not sure if it will hold up to weight. Will

March 18, 201313 yr Author Well how did your projects go this weekend. I had a fairly productive weekend other than the bad dovetail end I cut. But I did get them cut and ready to put the bottom in the chest and then a glue up. Then it was on to working on the pulpit. I found that my Dewalt SCMS was a little out of adjustment so I had to align it and then cut my miter joints for the pulpit. I have one more level that goes on here that will have the slant top and then it will be ready to sand and stain/dye. So there will be a shelf where the plywood is laying on top and then the slat top. It is coming together, but it has to be finished and in place for Easter Sunday so no time left to waste. Got to make and cut the trim pieces around the supports so it is going to be busy this week each night. Then my son got some White Oak cut for me so I can start to cut the slats for the four remaining porch swings. I will cut them and run them across the jointer and he is going to run them through the planner for me. I hope I am about to catch up somewhat. I need 40 slats per swing, so I have got a few to cut. So that is my update, what did you get done this weekend? John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
