March 18, 201313 yr  Ok, I already had one of these Dunlap planesand it had a York Pitch Frog @ 50 degrees.    This is a #3 sized one.   Today, a #5 sized Dunlap shows up in the mail.Same lever cap, same West German Iron.   The frog is also pitched up at 50 degrees for a York pitch.   On a Jack plane?   It isn't the frog's fault, on either of these planes, the frog's base is flat.it is more the "fault" of the base where each bolts down to.It has been milled that way.   Instead of flat across there, it is at an angle.    The bolts are even longer, just to allow the frog to slide "up-hill" a bit. Is there something about these Dunlaps from West Germany?   Seems to be a little different than a "normal" plane? Guess I will head for the Dungeon Shop, looks like I have some work to do... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
March 18, 201313 yr Author  Well, it took just under two hours to clean and sharpen back up, butIt does look better without the RED handles?     It will make nice curly things, too.    West German Iron didn't need much work.  For some reason, I can't set the iron for any finer cuts.   Well besides the point that it IS a jack Plane.    Adjuster wheel bottoms out too soon.   I had to set the frog back a ways.    This could be a fun plane to work with.   Frog has been worked over, as well. The cap iron is the exact same one that is on the #3 size Dunlap.    The iron is HUGE, and long.   It still is 2" wide, though, sitting beside the other Dunlap iron, it just looks BIG!   Now, maybe I have a matched set? March 19, 201313 yr Author Ok, after a little more tune up, I think it is about ready for "Prime Time"Just some old, nasty grained, Oak.  Looking good, almost like it's little brotherTogether, they made a few decent shavingsYep, about ready to go to work, right? Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
March 19, 201313 yr Author  Still trying to find some more info on these "Imported" planes.   Was there a #4 size plane offered, was there a larger than a #5 size offered?  Block plane?    A Fulton I bought last year bore no resemblence at all to these two planes.  These two are good enough to replace the Stanleys in the shop.    I now have three Stanley planes on Ebay, because of these two "Second line" planes.  They seem to be from the 1940s-50s era.     Made before the name Craftsman came out.Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
