March 19, 201313 yr Well my box from WoodCraft with my General Finishes Enduro Var and Homestead Dye arrived today. It came FedEX. I don't know what route the FedEx driver took, but he must have jump every bump and hit every hole he could between here and Madison, Al. Here is what my 89.00/gal Enduro Var looked like when I opened the box. I will be calling Customer Service and FedEx tomorrow. There is more of the product in the plastic bag than I believe is in the can. I haven't opened the bag yet, it is still sealed the way they had it. There was a small amount in the box and the dye seems to be okay. The closest General Finishes Dealer to me is in Franklin Tn, 90 miles away. Now I am going to be under the pressure to get this finished. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 19, 201313 yr John, that's too bad. But you should be able to salvage what you have, since none escaped, you have it all there right? Just put it through a finish strainer before it goes to the paint cup. You have lost nothing, but a few ounces maybe?EDIT: And by all means, yell at someone to get a new can of the finish! But just to get you by for now so you can finish the podium, I think you can use what you have.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project
March 19, 201313 yr Call them up and complain. In the meantime, take the can out of the bag, pop off the top and pour it back in.Unless the can has a hole in the bottom you should be fine.Or go to a paint store and get a new empty can that you can transfer it to.
March 19, 201313 yr I'm with Dragon. Get a new can first. I'd let woodcraft handle the dealings with FedEX. They hired them to deliver. You didn't. They have more pull than you. The bag on the can tells me that they've had similar problems before. What a mess. Glad the bag didn't break. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
March 19, 201313 yr Possibly the can got hot and the lid popped? I should think it'd have been poorly installed though. OUCH
March 19, 201313 yr Author I must brag on Customer Service at WoodCraft. I called today and told them what had happened and emailed them the pictures of the Enduro Var. They are shipping me out a new gallon today and told me if I could salvage any of what was in there to go ahead and keep it.Karen was fabulous in the way she handled it. Most likely she said the box had at some point been dropped and landed flat and it caused the top to pop up. The top does have the clips on it that are suppose to keep that from happening and you can see them in the photo. You can also see the edge of the top is raised allowing the Var to leak out. Thanks to Karen and Woodcraft for handling it for me.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 19, 201313 yr Way to go, John.Way to go Karen and Woodcraft.I'd still get a clean can.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

March 20, 201313 yr Author I am Gene, I thought I had some paint strainers here but didn't so I am going to run by tomorrow and pick up some and strain it into a new container. I also got to pick up a couple of containers for the dye.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 23, 201313 yr Author The new Gallon of Endruo Var arrived from WoodCraft today. Kind of funny, this one was packaged in the box on it's side. The best part was all of the Varnish was still in the can this time. Now that's how it should arrive, all of it in the can and not in the plastic bag around the can. Thanks for the great customer service WoodCraft. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
