March 22, 201313 yr  At least one that would cut wood!      Got tired of bind-ups and such.   Don't have the proper files to sharpen them tiny teeth, either.    Still needed a back saw... Ok, went out to a couple stores today, mainly for sanding belts.   Spotted a "Project" laying on the bottom shelf.   Now, first a look at the worst saws I have:Pretty things, ain't they.   Duller than a cold butter knife, too.   And the Project? A brand new, handleless saw blade! Needed a bit of trimming down, though. Had to decide which saw to restore.   After that, remove the handle from the bad blade, use it as a pattern to trim down the new blade.  Over to the grinder, and grind away what wasn't staying.    Hey, the blade costs a whopping $6.    I could afford a little blue here and there.  After I liked the shape, and things cooled down, over to the drill press, to burn a couple old drill bits.   One learns real fast how sharp a bit is, when drilling saw plates.    Got the three holes drilled, anyway.    Installed the handle back on the new blade.   Scrounged three bolts, and called it done..Medallion says "DISSTON" USA   Might be from the HK Porter years.   Old handle, meet a new blade. Took just about an hour to do. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
March 22, 201313 yr Steve, I am moving to your town, we don't have markets where you can just find stuff like this without driving 40 miles away. Great find and great job making an old saw work.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project
March 22, 201313 yr Author  Saw blade came from Menards.   About $6 counting tax.    In one town, there is a Menards, and a Lowes, side by side.  In my town, there is just a Lowes.  About less than an hour away, a Home Depot,....MEH.   As for Antique stores and such, we have a BUNCH around here.  I have only been to, maybe, a third of them.   So Far.....Planer?
