March 22, 201313 yr My big project is to finish up the pulpit this weekend and get it dyed. I have got all of the pieces cut and sanded and started rubbing it down to raise the grain so I can get ready to put the Homestead Transfast Antique Cherry color to it. This was a picture I made before I put the upper piece on and put the trim around the post. I will get an updated picture up this weekend. I got the dye mixed up last night and let it sit to settle out. I will be doing some test boards as soon as I get in tonight, put the top coat on them tomorrow while I am waiting a the last pieces to dry. So that is my main project for this weekend as it has to be finished and in place Friday for the Easter Sunday service. So what are you working on this weekend? A new project, finishing up a project, HDL (never ending), home improvement, shop upgrade, plowing snow, or just getting into your March Madness Bracket? We here at TPW are always interested in your projects, large and small, and love to see the progress pictures. Please share them with us and inspire someone else to give it a try. You never know who is lurking and picking up on the way you do a project. So let's get it going for the weekend, What are you working on? March 22, 201313 yr Back to the crib! Not much happening this week. Mimi, temporarily, got called into night shift and with the shop in the basement- can't make much noise while she sleeps.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
March 22, 201313 yr John, that's quite a pulpit, there. Are you sure it's going to be strong enough to survive all the pounding? :-)Anxious to see the dying job and get your report. Wife and I used it on our kitchen QSWO cabs to simulate fuming. Worked well. Caution....plywood takes it differently. 'Course you knew that. One more reminder: Use distilled water to wet the wood to raise the grain before the dye. We used water straight from the tap on a large piece of scrap. It was awful blotchy, I'm guessing because of the minerals in our well water. The oysters are level and the first application of plain epoxy filler (to save on turquoise) has been applied. Today will see the first application of the crushed turquoise and epoxy. 12 hours to cure, then sand and probably fill spots missed before and then, cure and sand again. Should be ready to miter and assemble by Monday.Gotta find something to do while it cures. Gee....maybe clean the shop?Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
March 22, 201313 yr Playing catchup tis weekend.  My garden custom garden sign came back to me last week - finish didn't last worth a @#$% - getting the old finish off and refinishing with Spar Urethane (supposed to be the best stuff according to the 'experts' around here).  Will also use it on a custom camper sign I'm making.  Other projects include replenishing stock that was sold at last show - it seems like the the "new" items always sell well so making more is always on the agenda - gotta make more than just one for my stock I guess.Other than that, I'm just gonna chill for the weekend (with the weather, it is definitely a chill factor - and the calendar says that it's spring - righttttttttt  )Fredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.com'Soooooo many patterns - sooooo little time'Scroll Saw Forum Host
March 22, 201313 yr Well, I've shot the 1st coat of finish on the kitchen island so I'll hit it again tomorrow with a second coat. Three coats is the target. Since this is Indiana and basketball is a religion here I'll probably be watching the Hoosiers play. I do have mixed emotions though. They are my favorite college basketball team but since the Prez picked them to go all the way the luster has worn off a bit.  Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

March 22, 201313 yr  Working on irons today.  New belts for the beltsander!   New stone, too.Just have to figure if it is an "oil" stone, or a soap/water stone.    Piece of tile, from Lowes, about $3.   Iron is from a Union #5A, and is 2-3/8" wide.    Have the edge sanded now.   Went through a couple oil stone grits, and some 2K paper, getting ready for this one. ps: Lever cap I was polishing up on the beltsander, caught and flipped back at me.   Made a nice little cut on a fingertip. Ouch.... March 24, 201313 yr  Nice looking pulpit. As for me I been busy past few months trying to get things done. Still piddling on the new router table. Got the cabinet done and the top. Both kind of eat my lunch several times. Had to remake the top after my router decided to go on a joy ride on the first one. Just need to get around to making the fence. Past two months been working on Arts and Craft entertainment center. That one also is trying to eat my breakfast and lunch both. My wife the other day says I'm too slow in making furniture. Well let see. 1) spent 3 days and nights in cabin at Devils Den State Park on her birthday weekend, spent about 1 day looking at bathroom faucets, spent 1 day looking at flooring, spent 1 day looking at kitchen cabinets, about half day looking a ceramic tiles for the bathroom, and about half a day looking a lights fixtures. That about 3 weeks of woodworking I didn't do. I guess I'm a little slow then. I do have some pictures following. Part of the leg and side of entertainment center Gluing and clamping one side. Think I got enough clamps. Dry fitting the bottom shelf Top for the entertainment center. Oh before I forget the wood is Red Oak. Also earlier refinished my wife grandmother bed. This what it looks like after stripping off paint and stains And the finished looks. It sort of came out blotchy.  I don't think the wood is poplar for I have use some in the past so I know what it it looks like. This router top is the prototype. The one the router had the joy ride. Old trusted Sears router table for about 20 yrs. I had a picture of the second router table top but could not find it. I get another picture of and post it. Question Who made Mother Nature mad? It still cold up in my corner of Arkansas. I been ready for warmer weather and not seen it yet. March 27, 201313 yr Hey John, the difference between 100% pure maple syrup and Aunt Jemima is like comparing instant coffee to starbucks. LOL John Morris said:Great work guys!!! March 27, 201313 yr Ya John i got it up and running, I got about half the winter out of it heating my house and shop. Right now Im just heating my shop with it. I got low on wood, the wood I had was too dry and it didnt last as long as it should have.  John Moody said:Hey Paul did you ever get the heat system hooked up and working?John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 27, 201313 yr Wayne, you're gonna love the router table. It look eerily identical to mine. I was looking at the bed and it came out great. If it's blotchy, you can't tell it from the picture. Beautiful my friend.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
