New saw in the shop?

Featured Replies

Went rust hunting today. Have to buy up all the good stuff before Morris moves here.  Anyway, rust hunt was on foot today.   Came home with a $3.21 handsaw. ning-sdc14613-15377-82.jpg?width=750It had potential, I think is the word.   Handle was nothing special to look at eitherning-sdc14612-15377-20.jpg?width=750But at least there wasn't any cracks.  Teeth look to be about 7-8 tpi.    Eagle style medallion says it is a Phoenix  Patented (over the eagle) Warranted  saw.   Decided to clean the plate up, so off the handle, er tote came. Cleaned off all the junk, including plaster in the teeth, with wire brush in the drill press, and a palm sander with a couple grits.   Brought it back upstairs from the Dungeon Shop.ning-sdc14623-15377-53.jpg?width=750Looks a little better?     Chucked the brass bolts and medallion into my drill.   Spun them into a 3M purple scratchy pad.   ning-sdc14625-15377-21.jpg?width=750Decided to leave the tote alone, for now.   So, put the saw back together, using a small brass rod to pry things back into alignment.   Of course, a little tap or two from a hammer, helped seat them in place. ning-sdc14626-15377-28.jpg?width=750Never did find an etch on the plate, though.    I guess that goes with them $3.21 saws, LOL.

Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
