March 29, 201313 yr Good Friday and Easter Weekend. Won't get time in the shop much this weekend, although I am finishing the Pulpit so it can be in place and used on Easter Sunday morning for the church service. I have the Pulpit in the spray booth and got the first coat of water based stain on. So I have it in the spray booth and getting it going. The color is a lighten up walnut and we even took a little of the black out to keep this on the light side. This is on Cherry to I want to darken it with out loosing the grain in the wood. When I put the Shellac and Enduro Var on it even gets a bit darker. So I hope this is in place on Saturday evening but I may be up early on Sunday morning and putting it in place before Church starts. Sunday afternoon, the kids and grandkids will be at the house and we will be hiding and hunting Easter Eggs. I hide them and sometimes find them later in the year when I am cleaning up in the yard. So what's on your agenda for this weekend. Will you be in the shop at all, hiding eggs, spending the day with family or just getting a nap on the couch? We at TPW are always interested in what you are doing with your woodworking. So please post some pictures of your Easter weekend, you prize egg or a picture of the family all together. So get with it and so us what you are working on. Have a blessed weekend for He Is Risen! John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

How many coats can you get on it before Sunday?I have to get a batch of Challenge Coin Displays off to an Army Captain so he can distribute them to his troops, this is a box of displays I have had sitting in my shop for sometime now waiting for the right moment to ship.I also have some loose ends to tie up with our LT Fallon project, and I hope to get sanding on my rocker and get it finished up this coming week, there is a woodworking show coming to town and May and I want it ready by then.Yep, we will do the traditional Easter happenings and we will post pics of our family here.I hope you all have a terrific weekend,He Has Risen Indeed!John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project
March 29, 201313 yr Author I should be able to get three coats of the Enduro Var on. It dries pretty quick and spraying it helps a lot. It really sprays good.I picked up a small gravity feed spray gun at Lowe's. It is a Kobalt and was 38.00. I got to say, the patterns on it are great. The small cup makes it easy to get in around tight places, the adjustments are easy to set and clean up is a breeze. If you are looking for a small or mini gun, I am very please with it.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 29, 201313 yr John, I like the color. It's not too dark so I think it'll blend well with the current furniture. The stain sure did accent the beading on the legs!Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
March 29, 201313 yr That's beautiful, John! Wish I was better at spraying finish- and had room to do it. The cleanup part was always a deal breaker for me. This, however, sounds interesting. The crib is ready for sanding- I hate sanding! There were some pieces of stock left over from the crib. I glued them up into panels and am going to make some pre-fab bird houses for the little ones next door to assemble and paint.BTW, like your spray booth!!Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. March 29, 201313 yr Wow, the pulpit is as we say in Newfoundland "The Cats Arse" Believe it or not, that is actually a real good thing. Strange saying's develop when you are this far North East. Must be the lack of sunshine. lol.... Today we are making a few wooden pocket knives for our FB followers that took part in a Share and Guess gimick we had Wednesday evening. Was a great way to gain LIKERS and attention. Watching glue dry now... Must get back to looking at the glue, you know it dries faster when you look at it. Bahaha. Michael and Matthew Agate (Newfoundland Canada)Proud Supporter of The Patriot Woodworker and what this great site stands for!

March 29, 201313 yr Author The spray booth is a section of my shop up by the garage doors. I use the rail for the door and a piece of conduit to stretch across the rails. Some "cheap" clear plastic shower curtains from Wal-Mart and the rings fit in the groove in the door rails. I can pull it back and tie them up with Velcro when not in use and just spread them out when I need to spray. I raise the door and put a fan there to pull out the over spray. I pretty much have good to water base products so I don't have an explosion problem. I have some bright lights that clip to the rails and a few LED lights so I can see while spraying. It is a quick setup, cheap to build and keeps the spray in that area and not all throughout the shop. When a curtain goes back, just pick up another one.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 29, 201313 yr Got get up around 5 tomorrow morning and head for our second show of the season about 40 miles from the house. http://statesboro.wtoc.com/news/events/72284-another-bloomin-festival-set-saturday-downtown-metterhopefully it will be better than last weekend. last weekends show was the most unorganized event I've been to in a long time, it was after 8 am before they got around to marking out the spaces and it was supposed to start at 9, then by 11:30 we got stormed out. I've a bunch of stuff to get finished up on Sunday.John, the pulpit looks great. GregSite hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactoryga.com/
