April 2, 201313 yr comment_14937  Is all assembled, and awaiting a final smooth down, and a finish.  Set it in a window while stuff cures outMight get a coat of BLO on the real walnut.   Had a slight adjustment to make in the build,  short aprons were NOT short enough!   had to go back and re-cut them to the right length.    Happens sometimes, when there isn't a written down plan.  Top is held on by four of theseOak corner blocks. Handsawn? Ah...No.  Place a chunk of oak in the vise, marked out the 45degree line, grab the circ. saw, and cut them.    Drill press made a few mounting holes. and the base was screwed down.    Still awaiting a final smoothing, and a finish... April 3, 201313 yr comment_14940 Steve, it looks great. The only design change I might tackle with a shave or hand plane would be to sweep up the bottom edges so you have a nice fine line and thin appearance at the top edges. It looks great as is, it's just something I like to do is all. Great job!!!I love walnut, can't wait to see the grain on this!John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project Report

April 3, 201313 yr Author comment_14938 Let's see: I have a can of poly gloss in the shop, and a can of that smelly BLO as well.    Can they be combined into a brush on finish? Will be running a router with a cove bit around the edge of the top.   A simple bevel just won't do, this time around.   Not set up to use a wiping finish, and do not have a spray set-up.   Looks like it will be a brush on...Planer?
