April 5, 201313 yr Woodcraft is planning a wood turning event using purpleheart blanks for pens which will go to Purple Heart Medal recipients to benefit US military personnel. For the past nine years Woodcraft customers and employees have been turning wooden pens on or near Veterans Day to send to military personnel on active duty overseas and in rehabilitation facilities and hospitals as thank-you gifts.  To date, 97,717 pens have been turned in the Turn for Troops program. For the rest of the story please see Frank Byers of Woodcraft's Blog at Purpleheart Pens for Purple Heart Award Recipients. And if you're in the Parkersburg West Virginia area drop by the Woodcraft store and help out! John Morris The Patriot Woodworker Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project

April 5, 201313 yr I would love to participate in that but my lathe is having issues.I spoke with Ron this morning (or early this afternoon), hopefully we can figure out a way to get someone in here that knows. what they are doing about lathe repairs. there has to be something that is making that grinding noise, but then sometimes, although rarely, there is no noise at all.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks

May 10, 201313 yr Some of the first pens I ever turned were for the Vets. A lot of self satisfaction when you participate. I had no idea of how many had been turned over the years. Very nice, thanks for posting.Leo in AZ.
