April 11, 201313 yr I need some help identifying the dark wood shown in the photo please. I'm not good at all with identifying wood yet. Thanks in advance for all your help guys!
April 11, 201313 yr My first guess was Walnut.Sometimes, monitors display colors differently than in real life. It could be Mahogany or even Padauk.Sorry to be so vague.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
April 11, 201313 yr Author I was thinking walnut at first. Mahogany I can see too with the lack of grain pattern.
April 11, 201313 yr Author The individual that asked me about the wood said the person that made this piece said it was rare! Doesn't look rare.
April 11, 201313 yr The color is also about the same as Sapele, but the grain doesn't quite look right. Osage Orange would be a little more "orange", I think.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
April 11, 201313 yr Somewhere I remember seeing a web site that showed various species of wood and their characteristics. I'll see if I can locate it.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
