April 17, 201313 yr  Ok, I used the rabbet to mark out the locations of the dado( Note to self: SHARPEN the pencil, first)  Once all the lines in the ash are drawn..I used a hand saw to just split each line.   wanted a little extra wiggle room to work with a chisel. I can always cut a little more out, if needed.  i added the second clamp, before the saw got started.  I start the saw at the back, and slowly lower the blade until level, while watching to make sure i am still on the marks. I added a screw in back of the piece, NOT in the piece, just in the bench.   Kind of a way to keep things from moving away from me, during the next stepA 1/4" chisel , and a mallet.   Knocked out the waste stuff, and then worked on the fitJust a little loose on this one.   Bottom and small corner blocks will help out here.  Repeat for the other side, and tap things togetherProgress being made??   This took almost as long to do, as writing this little post. And, that includes stopping to take a picture or two.. No electrons were harmed doing this, other than the ones in the camera.   Care to try this out sometime... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
