Showering Freedom and Independence

In 2007 while overseeing witnesses and detainees in Iraq, Army Sergeant Cameron Crouch plummeted nearly 70 feet after the building’s rooftop suddenly collapsed. The injuries he sustained from the fall eventually required the amputation of both of Crouch’s legs below the knee.

Getting to the Art of the Matter

In 2003, Army Sergeant Peter Damon lost his left wrist and his right arm above the elbow in an accident while performing maintenance on a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter in Iraq. In the months following his recovery, Damon, originally right-handed, eventually taught himself to paint using his left prosthesis with some incredible results. We talked to him about his journey as an injured veteran and the role his artwork has played in his healing.

Preschool Classroom Honors Injured Veteran, Donates Over $2,500 to HFOT

Every year, we give our students the opportunity to give thanks for the many blessings they have in their lives and to pay that forward by giving back to our community. For the 2012 holiday season, we chose to focus our efforts on Wallace Fanene, a former Army E6 Staff Sergeant who lost both his arm and leg in Kirkuk, Iraq, on September 8, 2007. He is also one of the dads at our preschool.

Homes for the Holidays & Building Milestones

Between Dec. 15 and Dec. 22, Homes for Our Troops delivered new specially adapted homes to seven veterans in six states, marking its Homes for the Holidays celebration. Upward of 2000 attendees, including military dignitaries, congressmen, and other distinguished representatives came to witness the joyous occasion of HFOT presenting keys to seven respective home recipients.
