April 22, 201313 yr I haven't been doing much woodworking lately and my grandson wanted me to make a windmill (as he called it) I built a couple of weather vane type windmills and I wanted them to drive small generators to light up LEDs on each. I found some old DC motors from and an old VCR and proceeded to make the two prototypes in the picture. I had to keep altering them to get max output, I needed 4 vdc to light up the LEDS.  The smaller one with fewer blades does light up, but it take a 30|40 mph gust to do it. The larger one failed to get the necessary voltage. If you look closely at the large one you can see I made the center hub from a caster wheel, it  has 2 roller bearings it. It was fun, but not what I wanted. I did learn that I don't know much about propeller technology. :-) DSC05961.JPG DSC05962.JPG
