April 24, 201313 yr Recently acquired a rabbet plane (I think). It is supposed to have two blades It has one and it's marked Craftsman with sort of a wavy font. No frog for the second blade, either. Also the fence is gone. It's all metal including the handle. On the right side of the body is a neat scroll pattern in the metal.Could find no other markings on the body.I paid too much for it, but I'd like to restore it. Can anyone point me to a place to look for parts? Thanks, everyone.Gene 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. April 24, 201313 yr I'll be getting a Wards version in a few days.   IF yours is what I think it is, there was only one cutter.    Left in the back spot, it was a rabbet plane.  Move it to the front spot, and it became a Bullnose plane.   On the right side, there should be two important items.   One looks like a shoe, and can slide up or down.  This is a depth stop, and shows when the set depth is reached.   The other is a little harder to see, almost like a + sign with a bolt in the center.   This is a "nicker" that scores the grain ahead of the cutter.   Very nice when going across the grain. Parts can be seen on Ebay.  look under Parts/ Plane Parts. Sometimes they will show up in the normal listings, too.Left side, looking towards the front:  Should be a rod sticking out.    On it should be a angle iron looking "fence" thatcan even slide under the plane.  This sets how wide a cut you want to make. Some have two rods, most just a single.   make sure the bolt stays tight.  When using the plane, things like a bolt or screw will shake loose.  ps: Pictures this weekend of mine, when it gets here.Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

April 24, 201313 yr Author Take a look. Do these help to identify it? Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

April 24, 201313 yr Made by Sargent.    A Number #79???  Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
April 24, 201313 yr Author Couldn't see any numbers or lettering on the plane body. Only "Craftsman" on the iron.I'm assuming the bigger hole is for the fence but, there is no screw (or hole) to lock it in place. The smaller hole is a mystery to me.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
April 24, 201313 yr The rod for the fence is threaded, just screwed in place.  A thumbscrew on the fence then locks the fence in place. Rod goes into the "larger hole".    Smaller hole is for a bolt to lock the depth stop at the depth you want to cut to.  Also a thumbscrew sort of thing.   I have a "Clones" thread going on over at SMC.   One fellow posted pictures of the four "types" of these planes , by who made them.   Looks like sargent had made this for Craftsman.   The one I am expecting Friday ( or so) is by Stanley, and made for Wards. Not sure IF a Stanley rod will fit a Sargent threaded hole....Planer? April 25, 201313 yr Gene: Here is a little guy, just in from the mail box. This one has all the parts, and is a Stanley made for Wards Master brand. The other side, including the fence. the cutter can be moved to the front spotto use as a bullnose plane.  There is a nicker on the other sidelocated right under the depth stop.  One rotates it until it cuts a line, or rotate back to use the plane without the nicker. Not quite as fancy as yours, though...
