April 24, 201313 yr  First off, i hand a jig to add to the "bench".   Got tired of the bench going for a walk, too.  So, I added another itemON the ledge is a plane jig.   I can just set a board on it, against the cleat at the end, and plane as much as i want, as long as the board is thicker than the cleat.   The OSB is screwed to the legs, after I had kicked them into place.   They don't "walk" anymore.   Started to clean some of the FREE scrap wood from the old shop.I had to add that piece of 1/4" plywood, boards were a might thin.  This one seems to be a Sycamore one.  The surprises?Thought is was just a board with a bunch of Beetle tracks, them ain't from a beetle.   That be curly stuff! The other surprise is from two boardsThem be black Cherry, leftovers from a joist.   I wonder what else that old plane will find? That old plane is from the late 1930s, made for Hibbards True Value, and is a #3 size.  Seems to do a decent enough job, thoughJust a cheap plane.... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
April 25, 201313 yr Author Tried to plane one edge, plane would not start on the board.   Got to looking, found a nail sticking up just a hair!.    Used the Plane Jig, and a back saw, and got rid of the area with the nail in it.    It was sticking up just enough that the sole of the plane would hit it.     Lucky to find nails that way. Might have to replace the stop cleat with something a might thinner.   These cleats do not have to be square to the jig, they are just a stop for the wood to rest against.   Main part of the jig is a big,old slab of particle board.  The roughness on the surface helps keep the wood in place.  Need to make another jig, though.  One i can use on a board's edge.    I could adapt the "speed square" jig, and a few c clamps, to hold a board on edge.  I also have a nice big piece of 1/4" plywood to make a shooting board with, too.  will be looking around for a few ideas...Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
