May 9, 201313 yr  Box was delivered to my hands about.....noonish todayInside was a roll of just bubblewrapand of course, some oily cast iron.   Got things apart to clean off the pint of oil ( needed to save that for my van, oh well) and gave the edge a quick strop on some green stuff on an old leather belt, for now. Took the reassembled plane down for a spin on a few wood test tracksThis one I think was a maple one.   A lot of adjusting of the iron, and even moving the frog back a bitAbout wore me out!  This is one heavy #4, or else all of mine other ones are just lightweights.   Gave it a test on some Pine scrapCamera hog, is it now? Turn sideways to show off it's "Good side"?   I think it might have made another plane a bit jealous?Still need to take the iron back out, and go over a few stones, and then another trip along a green stained leather belt.   Stay tuned. Ps: There will be a second Mail Call today, for North Carolina area, via USPS.   That one will take a LOT more to get this far along.    Hey, next Wed. is my 60th Birthday, so maybe these are B-Day presents???? Once again, THANK YOU, Guys and gals ( you too John Morris) and WOW! Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

May 9, 201313 yr Those are mighty fine straight ribbons coming out of that WoodRiver Steve! They are built well and and have some heft. Their No.4 weighs in at 5 lbs. The Stanley's weigh half that. The castings are thicker, the iron is almost a full 1/4". Nice plane from looking at from here Steve! Thanks for the update and we'll be looking for some more!John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops and Wounded Warriors Project

May 9, 201313 yr Author Yep, a Bedrock style of frog.    Seems to need a little stone work,   Back might need a little flattening too.Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
May 9, 201313 yr Steve, be sure you check the flat with a very good straight edge, those hand planes should not need any tuning up beyond the iron. steven newman said:Yep, a Bedrock style of frog.    Seems to need a little stone work,   Back might need a little flattening too.Planer?
