May 15, 201313 yr  While awaiting a box from Wood River, got a small jack plane in the mail.  Made by Stanley, called a Four Square Junior Jack plane.   11" long, instead of the usual 14".    Iron is 1-3/4" wide instead of 2".  Came in all rusty ( YEAH!) and dirty, with the iron and chip breaker in backwards.Lever cap wouldn't fit over the bolt, even.  Got things apart, CAREFULLY as not to strip out anything. Frog will need some work, tooSole was NASTY!Got after things with the usual drill press/wire wheel, and a beltsander.   Some of the parts cleaned upAll the bolts got a wire brush cleaning.  Went after the sole a bitWill need abit more, but looks better than before.   Iron is a SW era one. Got it nice and cleaned up , and honed back to SHARP.    Back is flat and polished.   Tried the assembled plane out on some Pine scrapGetting there.  May have to move the frog back just a hair.   Mouth is almost too tight.  Portrait?Haven't decided on the handles, as yet.  Might leave them as is.   As for it's larger relative? That is a "normal sized" #5 Jack sitting behind the "Junior" plane.   Look any better??? Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

May 17, 201313 yr Author Got a coat of black paint on the lever cap.  Then had to wire brush the Stanley logo clean, again. Not the best photo.  Sole was pitted a bit, but cleaned up nicelyThat is a normal size Jack plane it is sitting on.   One big pit near the mouth area.    Got the iron all nice and sharp, and even got a mirror polish to it.   Tested it out on some Black Cherry face grainNot too shabby???  The Wood River did try this out too.    It's shavings were about twice as thin.    NICE!!!
