Friday, May 17th, What's on your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend?

Featured Replies

For us here this is a large craft show call Arts Alive and will be held outdoors in the park in downtown Florence, AL. There have been a couple of problems in that it has rained for the past four weekends here and is raining today and will continue till around noon tomorrow. Second, if the torn rotator cuff and not being able to work on the inventory I need to do the show.

But my family stepped in and really helped me out. My wonderful wife and son Andrew made up a couple of batches of cutting board for me. I showed them what to do and they did the process. My wife was using the table saw, drum sander, planer, router table and oscillating belt sander as well as doing some hand sanding and using the ROS. How special is that? Andrew jumped in there also and did the same things. It was kinda hard to just stand and tell them what to do, but it was also fun to get to spend the time with them. I was only able to stand and watch and give instructions.

Here is a picture on one of the batches and they applied the oil.

ning-img-05391-13377-32.jpg?width=750These are just a few of them. I found it hard to take pictures with my iPhone left handed.

I also picked this Vintage Starrett protractor and center finder square this week. It even came with the original box. What a find.

ning-img-05411-13377-83.jpg?width=750So that is what is on my agenda this weekend. Hoping the rain stops and we can see some cutting boards and other items already had made.

What's on your agenda this weekend? Will you be working in the shop, building a new project, restoring a vintage piece of equipment, yard work, Craft Show, HDL, or just getting some rest in the recliner? I have been sleeping in the recliner for the past two weeks so I am about caught up on my recliner time. I am ready to get back to the bed.

Share with us your weekend plans and projects. Show us some pictures and tell us about the project.

Okay, I am hanging out today and will be checking to see what all of you will be doing.

John - better watch out - don't want the wife taking over your "hobby" do you??????  Yes, it is grrrrrrreat when family helps out. Know that for sure.  Hope your weather holds out, John.

As for me, I can only hope to get some woodworking in this weekend.  Have wife projects.  She has a big event going on at the museum this weekend and I "volunteered" to help her.

How about the rest of you?  Got sawdust things in the mill????

John, you are a lucky guy to have a wife and son to pitch in and do that for you. It truly is special. And wow, that square! A really nice find!!

I'll be working on drawer fronts and REMAKING a door that I stupidly made larger than the plans called for. I thought it looked better. Well, it did, but it sets above the drawers and opens down like a tray. The top of the drawer will not let it open fully. What an idiot!ning-no-13390-21.jpg

Getting my rotator cuff done on the 24th of this month.

Not looking foward to it but can't take the pain anymore.

Not looking forward to wiping left handed either.

I just keep hammering away.

Must be a rotator cuff epidemic.

That is a problem! Sorry to hear you are having to do it. Mine tore and I was unable to lift my arm so there was not much choice. It wasn't one that got bad over time. When I pushed up on the corner of the "Easy Up" tent it tore and my shoulder drop, my arm when to my side and has been there sinc the first of April. Theee and a half more weeks before I can move the shoulder and start therapy.

Best of luck with it Richard and let me know if you need any pointers.

Opening a Mt. Dew bottle for the first time is hard with just one hand.

Pulling up your pants

Putting on socks if you have to. I haven't wore them many days.

Opening a pop tart bag with one hand

Opening a pack of peanut butter crackers

Eating cereal with left hand

Wear flip flops or slip on shoes no lace toeing

Putting the recliner back since the handle is on the right and getting it down nice someone lets it back for you.

Eating ice cream left handd. Seems to want to run around the bowl.

That's a start.

Well, I am following in John Moody's foot steps as I am 2 weeks behind him with my rotator cuff surgery. It is very difficult to deal with everything one handed but I am making it work out ok. I do have a bone to pick with Mr. Moody in that my wife saw his posting on Facebook about his wife helping him in the shop and now my wife Tami wan't to help me out in the shop as well ("Allen, John's wife gets to help him in the shop why can't I?"). John, be glad that you live about 2,000 miles away from me and that my right arm is in a sling or I would have to slap you upside the head. :-)

I hear you about the shoe thing as I have been wearing flip-flops. But I needed to get back to walking and need to wear my walking shoes that are laced. I went to my local sporting goods store and picked up some adjustable elastic laces so that I can just slip my walking shoes on and go. I am very happy with them and they work great. They cost about $5 and took me a few minutes to get adjusted right for me.

One thing to note is that you don't want to trim off the excess laces until you get them just right. They feel different and they snug up more than you might think so leave them long and get used to them before trimming.

First off John, what a cool deal, you got some great help there!!! Hey, you may just have to turn into a shop foreman and manager the start hiring! I see the cutting board inventory skyrocketing!!!

I love your Starrett! Great find man!!! If you don't mind how much did you get it for John?

Report from Judy's event - - - - went extremely well.  Over 300 folks attended (at $25 each).  Raised a good amount of money for the Duluth Historical Society and Museum.  Perfect weather - 70's, overcast, light breeze, humidity down.  All that being said, about 2AM this morning, mother nature decided to send us a huge storm - much lightening and over 3" of rain.  I would say that mother nature blessed Judy's event.

Just an update - thanks for reading.
