Hand Plane Maker

Featured Replies

While prowling around in several Antique stores last week I ran across several "Worth" hand planes. At one store there must have been six or more on the shelf. I have done several google and bing searches and was just courteous as to who made them.

I have seen a few post that says they are good paper weights. I have seen a few post of ones that were restored. I also saw one listed on eBay for 9.95 and didn't get any bids.

So I am just curious as to who mad them?

Usually made for a company by the initials  P&SW, and some times called PEXTO.      About like Shipleigh over in St. Louie.    Big hardware supplier.

Tend to have pressed steel frogs, rather than cast iron ones.     PARPLUS  was another of their brand  names.       Some aren't that bad.      I think I have refurbbed one or two.    Again, this company was from the Boston, MA area.ning-sdc14441-12974-21.jpg?width=721a Worth #4, 2" wide iron, but a LONG body.

Steve, I did see one the with PEXTO stamped on it. I'm trying to remember but I think it was on the iron.

I did notice they seemed heavy.

You MIGHT try a company called Peck, Stow & Wilcox.      They may have just made that plane.ning-sdc14313-12970-37.jpg?width=721They can be made to work, though...
