Long time lurker finally joining.

Hello everyone.  I have been lurking for quite a while and finally decided to join in on the friendly atmosphere. I figured that if I had anything worth contributing, that I would join in. I got into hand tools a couple years ago to get away from all the noise and dust associated with machinery. I never figured that I would spend most of my time restoring tools instead of actual woodworking. But I guess that is pretty natural for a retired USN "Engineman".  Restoring planes and chisels can be very addicting all by themselves and can eat up the limited time that I can afford.

Welcome aboard "Stretch"! Glad to have you on deck!

One of the good things about restoring tools as opposed to using them on wood is that you don't get any wood splinters. :-)

John we are so glad you decidd to step out and join us. We are all just real people having fun with tools, wood and each other.

I hear you on the restoring tools. Steve Newman here on the site has turned over many rusted hand planes to a new life of making thin shavings. While I have been off work, my wife and I have been spending time visiting antique stores. I have been surprised at the planes I have located and picked up to either just clean up or completely redo.

I am looking forward to you sharing some of the treasures you have found and given new life too.

Jump in and join us, we're just having fun!

Thx all.

John, let me add my "welcome aboard" to ya.  We could use an engine personal around here.  Most of what we know is how to make pretty sawdust with a byproduct of a beautiful piece(s) of wood for someone special.

Welcome aboard!  I thought the finest tool an engineman could use was a 10 pound hammer. :)   Looking forward to seeing some of your restorations.
