Findin Hardwoods for projects

Featured Replies

well me an wife took a ride to Beaumont to look at some wood for up coming projects, was wonderin is $85 for a sheet of Alder high (4x8),am also lookin to find salvage wood also, just tryin to upgrade my woodworkin abilities.all the help I can get is HELPFUL hahaha, thanks guys Ron

I don't buy much plywood. Did buy a 3/4" 4x8 sheet of red oak a couple of years ago. It was almost $70. I try to get everything at a planing mill near here. Their main function is making flooring and trim but they'll sell any thing they have their. Maybe there is some one like that in your area. The big box stores charge outrageous prices and the quality is often lacking.

Time traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!

Im not too sure about the price of the Alder. I had to have a sheet of full 3/4" Cherry plywood for a project and it was 104.00/sheet.

As far as hardwood, I get trees that are being removed from yards or blown down in storms and take them to the saw mill. That way I get them cut the way I want it. It is way cheaper than you can get it for at big box store.
