June 6, 201313 yr On this day in 1944, the United States, Canada, and Britain teamed up and invaded the shores of Normandy for the liberation of France. To the men who gave all to liberate an occupied country, and to maintain our freedoms here at home, we tip our hat, and bow our heads solemnly. With great respect, and admiration, we say thank you! This was truly a war of self preservation for our country and democracy around the world. If not for the men and women who served in WWII and fought the fight and won, our world would look completely different today. May God Bless those who served and paid the ultimate price, and May God Bless those men and women alive today who still remember those horrific days of battle. June 6, 201313 yr Just read today that 600 WWII veterans are dying each day. Our greatest generation will soon be gone, but pray their efforts will never be forgotten.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
June 6, 201313 yr I have been watching the military channel this afternoon. It is hard to imagine what it was like even watching it now. As you said, thanks to that entire generation that gave of themselves to secure what we experience today. My dad was in the Pacific and I have no idea what it was like, I just know it was something as a marine he would not talk about. He didn't want us to bring it up and if we did he would want to know why we wanted to know about it. What ever it was it must have been horrendous! June 6, 201313 yr D Day was a defining moment in the history of the United States. A failed mission at Normandy would have meant at best an extension to an already long and bloody war. Thanks to all who fought there.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
