June 9, 201313 yr My cousin's daughter is preparing for a fall country wedding and wants a cupcake stand made. She wants the stand made from slices of oak but wants the bark left on. Here's the question. What should I seal the piece with to keep the bark from flaking off?  Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

June 9, 201313 yr I would think that any of the Wood sealers such as Thompsons water sealer would work well for that Ron. Other than that, maybe a wax of some sort.Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
June 10, 201313 yr Greetings AllDepends how much bark you need to keep on. When I turn natural edge bowls and wanna keep bark on, I just soak it with good clear glue, http://www.carbatec.com.au/hot-stuff-glues_c11620 Red bottle goes to the tiniest holes and sticks instantly. Two others are bit thicker and take little bit longer to settle. I'm still able to turn the pieces and bark doesn't come off. Done this to green or seasoned wood. In the end result you can't see the glue.Good luck mateKeep on turning, if not today, do it tomorrow.
