June 12, 201313 yr After 15 years of promising the wife I'd build her a bed, I finally found  plans that she and I both agree upon.  A craftsman style in walnut milled from a local church camp.My original intent was to mortise the bed rails into the legs, but the plans call for knockdown bed rail fasteners.  On further review, I've also seen mortise/tenon with bedbolt connections used with other plans.  Is there a preference amongst the learned brethern on this site as to which way to go.  I do plan on moving this piece of furniture eventually, so the knockdown fasteners hold some attraction.  My concern is strength, as we are bigger folks and I do not want this bed coming apart under the weight of two grown adults. So, I appreciate any insight that can be provided. Will

June 14, 201313 yr If you are going to move it then use the knockdown most definitely! A queen or king bed frame in one piece is a PITA to move through door ways!!!! I vote for the full knockdown version Will.As for actual parts, the fellas above have some great links for ya!
June 14, 201313 yr I made a queen size bed and used the mortise and Tenon with the bed bolts. It is no problem to take apart. The location for the nut is made to just hole the nut so you just back out the bolt. Of course the knockdowns can be used. If it is a period thing that they used bed bolts, I would use the bed bolts.
