June 14, 201313 yr  Lets see, I have a FranckenDE6C  Fore plane, made from a few extra parts ( like a new base) A FranckenBailey #5 Jack plane.   Made from a parts box of stuff. And now?  A Francken #4.     Came in today as a BLUE Powerkraft #4.     I had a few other items sitting around.    Blue frog was a cheapie, got that off the base.   Lever cap had to go, no spring plate on back of it, rough casting, with flaking plating. Even the iron/chipbreaker could be better.   So.....I had a Good lever cap, a better iron/ chipbreaker, and a better frog.   re-used the bolts from the old frog to bolt the new one down.   I'll will have to get rid of that blue paint job on the base, and re-do the handles..But, it's a start.   Just a $6 plane + S&H of course......
June 14, 201313 yr Author Went with the original frog, after a lot of rehab.   Frog was a bear to get flat, both where the iron sits, and where the frog sits on the base.   Base will need a bit more tune ups.   Sharpened the iron up, including grinding a new edge to get rid of three big dents.   All the way through to the leather strop! Re-did the painted wood handles, after sanding away a lot of loose paint.   Put things back together...I had tried the plane out on some of that Sycamore i have for a project.   The pine is just to keep the plane up off the painted sill. That handle showing up in the bottom of the photo? It seems i spent a WHOPPING ONE DOLLAR bill today!Stamp on the plate is a "7".   Medallion say it is a Warranted Superior. Seems to be a crosscut saw.  There is barely a trace of an etch showing.   There is also a bump at the end of the saw's platePretty little nib, ain't it?   I cleaned up three saw plates today, then the B&D 1/4 sheet sander DOA'd on me.   One of the other saws?is a little 14" long 10 ppi Toolbox Saw.   I can see myself in either plate.   There is also a 5 ppi Rip saw done up as well.  Â
