Friday, June 14th, What's on your woodworking agenda this weekend?

Featured Replies

Well I can report that I have my brace off from the rotator cuff surgery and have had three days of therapy this week. Most of the therapy was handled by them. They did most of the moving of the arm. Today they did have me to do some movements on my on.

Anyway I am getting better and I can already see some improvement in what little I can now move it. From three days straight, I am sore though.

Enough of that, we had the three porch swings finally picked up yesterday and they were excited with them. My son and I will now finish up the cedar chest that is still out on the work bench and hopefully get it shipped in about a week.

This afternoon I will be going to pick up several logs from a walnut tree and get it to the mill Monday to go with some walnut I already have waiting to get cut.

Hoping to get some cleanup done in the shop, that is really about all I can do. I am pretty good with the shop vac.

So what about you all? What are you woodworking plans this weekend, will you be starting a new project, finishing up an old project, making shop jigs, cleaning the shop, home improvement, yard work, or spending time with the family for Father's Day?

By the way, do you have any special wishes on your list for Fathers Day?

Well what are you waiting for, we here at TPW are interested in what you are doing in your shop. Please share your project with us and show us pictures along the way.

If you are restoring a piece of equipment share that with us also.

I'm watching, so start sharing.

Going to sand the Fruit Bowl- that started out as a salad bowl- and hope it doesn't end up an ash tray!

I'll post some pictures tomorrow, but I was able to pick up the two walnut logs.

Anybody else get any woodworking started for the weekend or are you doing it tomorrow?

Glad that you are starting to get back to woodworking related activities John. We have Tami's folks out for the weekend as this will be the last time that they will get to see our son and daughter in law before they move to Indianapolis on the 29th. So hanging with family tonight and tomorrow and not getting to do much else. I am working on getting some maintenance supplies for my Ford F150 as Tami and I will be driving out to Indianapolis pulling a U-Haul with our kid's stuff. On tuesday I will see the doctor and will start physical therapy on Wednesday. So once I get a bit more shoulder mobility next week I will drain and refill my radiator, replace the fuel filter and the serpentine belt. Those I can do without hurting myself. I will take the truck into the shop and have them do the oil change and transmission fluid change and then we will be ready to hit the road. But no woodworking for me due to the shoulder and that my shop has a bunch of boxes and large tubs with my wife's school stuff from her classroom as she is doing the summer school program at a different school so she had to get the stuff out of her regular classroom until she heads back to get ready for the fall session.

Indianapolis????  Hmmmmm.

I'm in the finishing stages of 3 boxes for a show I'm doing in July.  Next week I get to make a couple of side tables.  We bought a new sofa and chair for our family room and the tables we have need replaced.  Dorothy saw two nice Amish side tables in the store so guess what I'm making?  Of course they have turned legs so the first step is turning 8 legs.  They rest will be a cake walk.

John, great to hear your out and getting back in it!  I hope I never have to go through that, you and Allen are quite the pair!

I have had an old watch case sitting in the wings for a couple months that a customer dropped off at our home. It had to take a place in the back of the line for that time period as I was finishing up our walnut rocker getting it ready for a show.

He wanted some shelves installed in it to display his collection of antique watches. The actual case is turn of the 20 century, it was a display case I believe for old Boliva's or another high end watch of that era and today.

Last weekend I was finally able to get the shelves that I built the weekend before glue up inside the case. The shelves are glued up in segments to allow for the slots that the watches fit into. The pics below are a dry fit, the shelves are not yet trimmed to size for the final glue up. The top and bottom shelves are for banded watches to stand up in the slots, the middle shelf is for pocket watches to lay flat on. There will also be hooks at the top for the pocket watches to hang from.

This was an interesting project, the owner was referred to me by our own Ronald Dudelston, it's kind of funny, he contacted Ron some time back for other work to be performed and Ron built some watch related casework for him, this time Ron who lives in Indiana shot him back to me, and it turned out the gentleman lives only 45 minutes from me!!! So I got to meet a new friend tool!

As you can see in the photos above, the rear of the shelves still need to be ripped to fit the depth of the little case.

I'll have some finish shots up today!

Wow pretty cool John. So you do slip out into the shop and get in some woodworking every now and then.

Ya I do John, I just don't show it here because I keep forgetting to take pics of what I am doing out thereI I know, shame on me!

I took these pics because I wanted to show the customer the progress. I actually get out there every weekend one way or the other, if I don't have a project, I'll pull up a stool, grab a diet coke, and turn on the news and find something to clean or I'll peruse some woodworking literature while sitting at my workbench. And yep, all the meanwhile the kids and dogs are running through, and my wife will peek in and pester me to do yard work or honey do's!!!! LOL!

Nope, but I do :-)

Cutting out pieces for my latest wall art.  576 pieces of wood will be required - unless I throw my hands up and go with a smaller canvas. :)

Now that sounds like a large canvas.

Why thank you Sue!!!! It was quite the unique job, and fun too! I hope the owner likes his revised rendition of his watch display case! Thanks again Sue!
