June 19, 201313 yr so it would seem.  The Wood River #4 V3 is now in need of a hone job.    Started to get a bit harder to push.    Seems I need to hone the edge.     Maybe I will now learn how long between sharpenings that blade can go.    Millers Falls #9 started to cut better?     Time to work on the edges...
June 19, 201313 yr Author Well, since there is a rust bucket plane coming today in the mail,  I might just sharpen the iron on both.   I like to try to keep the original irons on their planes, if I can.   Looks like it will need some work.   Might as well make use of the sharpening gear while it is out. Pictures will be later today.....
June 19, 201313 yr Author Sharpening guide and a beltsander to get the bevel rightLeave the guide on, and hit a two grit oil stone A few trips down some 1k grit laying on the stoneFew swipes each side on a green loaded strop. Now IF things are really bad, a grinder gets first dibs, at the edge, and the back.  Â
June 19, 201313 yr I would venture to say the bevel is good on that WoodRiver? the thought of putting that new iron on a belt sander makes me cringe.steven newman said:Sharpening guide and a beltsander to get the bevel rightLeave the guide on, and hit a two grit oil stone A few trips down some 1k grit laying on the stoneFew swipes each side on a green loaded strop. Now IF things are really bad, a grinder gets first dibs, at the edge, and the back.  Â
June 19, 201313 yr Author yep! Just needs a tune up, maybe just the strop will do.The other plane that came today?   Weeellll, It took a lot to fix up the iron.   Turns out the chipbreaker is also causing it to bend a bit.... Might be a new set coming for this one....
June 19, 201313 yr Author Sharpened both irons up. The WR #4V3 was just a strop jobwill take a bit of fussing to get it to the factory settings.  As for the No-Name Barn PlaneGave it a test drive on some wormy Barn Wood, to make it feel rihat home..
