Friday, June 21st, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda this weekend?

Featured Replies

So it is a little later on Friday than I usually post this, but it is still Friday.

I have a couple of projects we are working on. Well I am watching and my wife and Andrew are doing most of the work.

Another batch of Cutting Boards are in the works.

ning-img-07401-12218-50.jpg?width=750And I have another project I am hoping to get going this weekend.

ning-img-07381-12218-7.jpg?width=750I got an Excalibur Over Arm Blade Guard with Dust Collection.

ning-img-07391-12218-16.jpg?width=750 I'm looking forward to getting this hooked into the system and start catching a little more dust.

I also got in a few more parts for the Tilt Top saw. I got the Dado blade insert and the end caps for the fence rails.

ning-img-07371-12218-24.jpg?width=750And I dropped off earlier this week a couple of Walnut logs at the saw mill. It should be ready to pick up along with some other walnut logs I had already taken to them.

ning-img-07361-12218-77.jpg?width=750The large on is about 26" and the smaller one is about 16". Both of them were 14' long.

And here is my update on my right shoulder movement. I just finished two weeks of therapy this afternoon after the Rotator Cuff surgery. I went two months without moving my right arm. So here is what I can do now. Not all the way back yet, but I am getting there.

I'm feeling good about the movement. It is not all the way up yet, but it is way further than it would go two weeks ago.

So what are you working on this weekend, a new project, finishing an old project, yard work, home improvement, shop update, new jigs, playing golf, or just some plain old R&R? We here are TPW are interested in what you are working on and what's going on in your shop or your world. Share it here with us and all the others, You never know, you might just inspire someone else to give it a try.

What are you waiting on, post the pictures of your projects!

Nothing woodworking related for me as I am still doing the shoulder recovery thing like you. Also I have a bunch of boxes in my garage of my wife's teaching supplies as she had to bring a bunch of it home since someone else was going to be using her classroom from the summer program. Since we will be hitting the road to drive to Indianapolis next Friday to help our son and daughter in law move their stuff and to have some R&R visiting a few friends, I have been slowly working on maintenance for my Ford F150. I got all the stuff done like get the alignment done, the oil changed and the transmission fluid changed this past week at the mechanic's shop. Yesterday I had a friend come over to help me put in the new serpentine belt which was difficult to do with my right arm limited as you got to twist yourself and the belt around to get it on all the pulleys and it is a tight space. But we got it done and had a good time chatting. Today I drained the cooling system and put in new anti-freeze as well as changing the fuel filter. Both of those were easy to do though I did get sprayed with more gas than I thought. It was a good thing that I read up on changing the fuel filter online as I would not have been able to do it without getting the special wrench to remove the back filter hose clamp. Other than getting the gas all over me when the supply line was removed, it went very smooth.

This morning my wife and I got to sleep in and then had breakfast and read the paper. Then we went and saw the new Superman movie and enjoyed it. Tomorrow we will bounce around and maybe go down to some antique stores to walk around in before attending the going away party for our son and daughter in law at church as they both have worked in the youth group for the past few years as well as having some of my son's old friends coming out as well. so we have a full and busy weekend ahead of us.

Great to hear the good reports of John and Allen's progress.

Looks like John has plenty of work lined up for his helpers. :-)

And Allen's shoulder must be working pretty good if he undertook a serpentine belt change....even with help and two good shoulders, that's quite a chore.

Kevin's gun cabinet is ready for final sanding and the first 2 coats of ragged on stain. Hope to get it fully stained (probably 3 coats) and ready for the first coat of varnish by Tuesday. Monday, I will be building a spray booth of PVC and plastic sheeting.

Working on two Amish side tables for my wife.  Sometime today (Saturday) I have to re-rope my weedeater (again).  Glad you are getting some mobility back John.  You'll need it to arm wrestle me for one of those end caps.  I'm missing one.

I'm hoping to get some turning in this weekend too, but i am not sure yet what it will be, I was looking for a bowl that I was going to finish up but i can't find it, so i think an aid that was trying to be helpful, moved ity somewhere that I am not aware of. GRR. If i don't get to do that, maybe i'll just start another one and see how that goes :)

Have a safe fun weekend all, and you guys that are healing get well soon :)

I was hoping to get my pieces cut for the newest wall art I'm working on. I have all the wood planed and ready to cut. Unfortunately, we set off the brake on the Sawstop by having the metal track on the sled - in the track and next to the saw blade when the Sawstop was turned on.  Brake went off like it was suppose and unless I wanted to bypass the brake which I don't, I can't use the saw until I replace the brake.  A $69.00 mistake.  :(   Off to Woodcraft for a new brake plus an 80 tooth blade.

That's a bummer, Charles. Look above the fridge.

Another bummer, SQ. Quite an expensive 1/10th of a second.

Heya Gene no it's not there either, and my day just got worse.

If you all remember, I had a recent problem with the head stock that needed repair work done, well all has been going great until today. I started hearing a slight whirring sound and suddenly my speed indicator stops reading. It went from 220 to 0 in a blink of an eye. The lathe is still running ok but that whirring sound doesnt sound good, so I shut her down quick as I could and I am now having to wait on PSI to contact me to see what they want me to do about it :( If it ain't one thing it's 20 others :(

So how did you all fair with your weekend projects? I finished off several cutting boards and had a return customer come by and get another one on Saturday. The oil wasn't completely dry.

Spend the rest of the weekend doing HDL. I love it!

So how about you?

Weekend turned around.  We picked up the new brake and 80 tooth blade and installed it in the Sawstop.

As some of you might remember from previous posts I have never been comfortable using a table saw which is one of the reasons we bought the Sawstop to help build my confidence. I use nearly every other tool in the shop, but the table saw has always intimidated me.

I don't want to sound like a commercial but with the Sawstop and the Incra Mitre Express sled, cutting out over 588 pieces of wood less than 1 inch square for a wall art project was a good experience. I cut enough pieces to really begin to feel comfortable using the table saw.

Right now I am working on getting all these pieces glued to the canvas.  Hoping to have it finished today. :)

Can't wait to see your latest creation, SQ.

Gene,

Thanks.  I'm still gluing pieces.  I've already planned the next wall art project.  It will be many multi-sided pieces that together will make up a bigger design.  But I've told myself I have to finish this one before I can cut those pieces on the table saw using my awesome sled.  :)  Back to gluing!
