June 28, 201313 yr I have some 7mm slimline pen kits and was wondering if anyone has cut a 1 inch blank in half to turn out the pen. my blanks are 1 inch by 12 inches
June 28, 201313 yr Do you mean making a blank 1/2" x 1/2"? I think most slim lines need to be at least 9/16" diameter- depending on the shape. Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!

June 28, 201313 yr I checked the instructions from several suppliers and see that Woodcraft does indicate a .5 x .5 inch blank. If that is the brand you have, it should work. It probably won't give you much material for elaborate shapes but, but personally, I like the straight style. Hope this helps Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime Traveler and Purveyor of the Universe's Finest Custom Rolling Pins!
June 29, 201313 yr 1/2 x 1/2 is plenty for a slim kit. However, if you cut a 1 x 1 with a table saw you won't have a 1/2 x 1/2 left. Resaw it with a band saw if you can.Â
June 29, 201313 yr Should be fine and as Greg said I would cut it on the band saw if possible. I usually like a little more of a blank but that comes down to personal preference.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
