June 29, 201313 yr  Although no planes were found (yet) I did find a few other items.   I find there is a peculiar smell coming from rusty, old tools.   Almost went past a long farm lane, when that "aroma" appeared.   Stopped right there, drove up the 1/4 mile "driveway", and foundThese four "neglected souls".   Well three and a Mutt.  Of note are the stickers on theseAh yes, $0.25!   Each!   Let's see, that would be ONE DOLLAR???  There "Mutt"?Handle isn't sitting right, half the bolts are missing, the holes don't line up even. FranckenSaw!   Very short length, but very "fat" in the other direction. Does not appear to be cut down, either.   Looks like a "Clean up in aisle four" coming up.    Drove a few more miles, and..... there was that smell again!    Pulled into the driveway, walked into the "barn" they had their sale in.   Saw a rusty old Backsaw with a $10 (Yipe!!) pirce tag on it.    Got to looking a little closer, there was something that went with it...Strange, three pieces of wood, and some metal fittings??? With a few saw marks showing.    Talked the price down a couple dolllars.    Went home after a long day on hunting sales.   Most we didn't see will be held TOMORROW morning.  Grrrr!   Got this piece of whatever it is out, to check it over. Ah, a light bulb goes off!  A "Tool box sized miter box" .    Even had a brand name on itAnd a ruler!   There was another label, as wellGem Folding Mitre Box. MFD by  ( ready for this one?) The Alaska Freezer CO. INC Winchendon. MASS. As for that saw with it? 14" long Disston/HK Porter.    VERY WELL WORN teeth, too.   I think I might have another back saw handy, though...There is also a brass rod, that goes along with this Mitre Box.   Pull it out of it's storage hole on the end, un-fold the box, and slip the rod through the "leaves". This keeps the box from folding back up when you are trying to saw some moldings. As for planes...... I "won" two of them on Fleabay tonight.   A Stanley Defiance with a fancy, pebbled lever cap.  The other is another rusty Millers Falls/ Mohawk Shelbourne #4.   Both have half their weight in rust.    Will arrive next week.     Then the fun begins.  Saws:   I have the Turtle Wax Metal polish ready to go, have plenty of sand paper ( 100 grit) to moosch it around on the saw plates.   Will bring home some more Citius Mold Cleaner to clean the sludge off.   I have five saws to do.... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

July 1, 201313 yr Well I didn't do near as good as Steve did on my rust hunt but it was fun. I can't boast to have the deal he got on the Disston saw for .25. I paid a $1.00 each for these. The small one at the top has an Otasco price tag on it and it sold for 3.78. A closer look at the medallions. I also picked up a couple of Stanley block planes. One is a Stanley handyman that is missing the front knob. Blade was pretty rusty, but took the wire brush to it and had a pretty fair edge. And the other is a Stanley made in England. I gave a $1.00 for the two planes. I'm keep an eye on you Steve. I haven't found the deals you have, but I am working on it.
