July 3, 201313 yr  The first time anyone saw this "thing", it was badly handled, missing bolts, and very rustyUgly??  Took it apart, to see what was going on, "under the hood"A 9 pointer.   Holes and the back edge just didn't line up with the tote.  Found a better looking tote on one of the other 25 cent saws.    Decided to grind a bit on the edge of the plate, maybe sawkerf the tote a bit, to see what kind of a fit I could getI had enough steel bolts, and a WS medallion to put it back together with.   Clean the hardware nicely cleaned up, and ready to go.   First, though, I needed new holes drilled.    had a Ti drill bit the right size, plus a hair bigger.    Put that into the Drill Press.    Had a can of 3in1 oil handy, and a pair of "finger clamps" by Visegrips.   Lined up the tote and plate, located the first hole's location, and clamped the mess in place.   DP is as slow as I can set it.     Lots of pressure, and keeping the hole filled with oil.   First hole done, install the first bolt.  Repeat until the others are done.  Chucked a wire wheel in the DP.   Stripped what was left of the old finish, and then a coat of that SMELLY BLO. Plate was polished up, found no etch.  Now, some people will use one of these as a Tenon saw, a BIG Tenon Saw.   9 ppi.   Will have to work on the teeth a bit.  A few more looks?Just flipped over to show the other side.   Ok, one more viewNot too bad, for a 25 centavo saw??? July 3, 201313 yr Author If it was cut dowm, they did a very good job of it. Seems to be a Tenon saw for the type used in Timber Frames.  One fellow even uses this type of saw in a miter box. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
July 5, 201313 yr Author Did a little clean up on the mitre box saw.   Took the plate out of the tote, and sanded it down, then a spray of WD40 and another sanding down.    Sprayed with some of George Foreman's Spray cleaner, let soak until I could get some paper towels. Beltsander was reshaping the tote a bit, as well.  Found zero set to the teeth, will work on that, sometime.  Ah yes, pictures..The "Before" shot.  eh, not that bad, but could be better? One more look, then on to the other stuff from todayStarting to lok any better? Next project in the 25 Centavo Barrel is a Disston USA  Rusty-bucket saw.    Rusty? Yes, but no pitting!   A look at the "fancy"Tote?I guess they were still trying to be a good saw company back then.   Oh, I did find a "Disston" etch. Still working to bring iit out more.    Same routine as the backsaw as for cleaning the plate.  Ok, one last item today. marked out a piece of pine to cut on the mitre box.  The square is a Stanley Defiance one.  Tried out the backsaw first, and found out about the no set item.   Got out a same length saw..Found out one needs to clamp that dang box in place.   The "tool box saw" did not take too long to make the cut.  At least it has set... The other project for today?   getting a couple arm healed up, from being in contact with SUMAC!     That shot HURT! Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
